Big Ten Tournament Canceled

#29
The optimist in me hopes they reschedule the NCAA's (yes, hasn't happened yet, but more than likely it will be postponed). I just don't want to see it canceled. Not just for Illinois, but all the other teams, too.

I think the tournament will be picked via autobids from regular season champions. Tournament will be delayed. I think they’re doing this to make sure to still have the tournament later.

This is the year we were going to win it all. I just no it. Therefore, I will claim Illinois as National Champions.

Don't get your hopes up.

I highly recommend Joe Rogan's podcast. It's long...but the absolute best info I've heard or read since this started.

It's going to get worse....and it's not just hysteria....it's an actual expert telling you.

This seems like a huge overreaction to me. They can't even play with no fans there? Is there any meaningful risk to anyone with no fans there?
With what happened in the NBA last night, they can’t risk it

Yes there is. I suppose they could test every player and every essential personnel in the stadium and then quarantine everyone until the tournament is over. But really, if one player gets it the whole team has to be quarantined, and then games would be forfeit, and then it would spread to that team's hotel and so on.

The team that is quarantined wouldn't be able to participate in the NCAAs because the quarantine is 14 days. The NCAA will follow suit soon enough. There is no way there are tournament games next week.

Funny. They let all the teams travel from all over the country to get there and would have been a lot more risk in the public than on the court. Now they call it off once all the traveling was complete. Now they all have to go back and dodge it again, most teams without playing. Just dumb at this point.

It says "no fans" but its staff, families, players, media, workers in the arena all present.

The problem is the administration's lack of candor and surefire plan for testing. If people understood the facts better or even if their was more adequate testing, you could test all the players, coaches, and refs in advance and at least carry forward with a televised tourney.

I fully believe if Rudy Gobert didn't get the virus, the NBA would be playing, the MLS would be playing, and we would see a tipoff in the B1G tournament in 40 minutes.
This is true. But everything changed for the NBA once he did get the virus. The entire Jazz team has to be quarantined for 14 days. Really all the teams they've been in contact with recent;y have to be quarantined as well. You can't continue the league without 1 or more teams.

The Rudy Gobert situation made this truly hit home for all sports organizations. If an NBA player, in a league with ultimate controls in place, can get hit with this....anyone can. If it turns out that this did spread to another player, where does it end?

Add in the Fred Hoiberg situation. The optics of that were brutal. To me, that brought the lack of being able to trust our fellow human beings to the forefront. How could he possibly make a decision to show up? In a situation like this, with cancellations, it's always brings us to the "what if" thought process. What if he was actually infected with the virus? Imagine how widespread that would have gone.

I'm sad, I'm upset, I'm bummed out, but I understand. If something happened to any of these kids, that's just an indefensible situation.
