Saw The Post yesterday. I thought it was decent but not Oscar-worthy. I thought Streep did a very good job, thought Hanks was a bit heavy-handed.

Went to see The Post last night. Really well done and definitely an important movie to see given the current climate in this country. While Meryl Streep (who will probably get an Oscar nomination) and Tom Hanks are the main actors in this film, Bob Odenkirk really stands out even with the limited screen time he has compared to some others.
I haven't seen this film, but Odenkirk is such a strong, versatile actor. Glad he came through!

Ian, since you're our movie "expert" on here, I'll defer you as to your thoughts on the nominees. Any surprises? Any snubs?
Got a chance to see Black Panther yesterday on my day off. Really enjoyed it. Michael B. Jordan was great in his role and Killmonger was perfect for him. Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright are great in their roles.
It's no surprise that this film is currently the best reviewed live action superhero film on Rotten Tomatoes (currently at 97%; even better than The Dark Knight and Iron Man which were both at 94%).
I agree with your take on Killmonger. He was one of the more empathic villains in recent memory.
I haven't seen the film yet, but came across this article and I think it speaks to your comment about empathetic. This was also a great read about the African diaspora in general.
OopsDo you have a link to that article? Michael B. Jordan is a force to be reckoned with.
Ian, any picks for the major categories at the Oscars tomorrow night?
David Ogden Stiers, long known for playing Major Winchester on M*A*S*H, has died at the age of 75.
Aside from M*A*S*H, he also was well known as a voice actor on several Disney films including Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and Lilo & Stitch.
Sad to hear this. I went to grade school with Stiers for a couple of years at Leal School in Urbana, Illinois.
