Illinois Football Recruiting Thread

Gill Byrd came to ESL once. Only once which is why he is struggling at Kentucky or wherever he is.
Yes he was a horrible hire. Not made for college. I think we can both agree that in state recruiting is a disaster right now and can agree to disagree on the reasons why.

Lovett, Lewis, Macon, Spraggins, Johnson, Billingsly, Powell, jeff thomas, Estes, Lagrone, James Knight, Stanley Green, Simms, Beckner JR, Watson, Ivy.

So Illinois has gotten 2 out of the last 16 offered prospects from ESTL. To me that is showing that sunkets actions and words aren't coinciding.
Macon, Powell, Estes, Logrone, Watson, Ivy were ALL DENIED by the staff! Every last one of them tried to commit to Illinois and was told NO! What part of that don't you understand. Simms chose Mizzou because Illinois hired the OLine coach who didn't want him when he was at Mizzou. Mizzou didn't offer until he left. Billingsly didn't have an offer from Illinois according to CPat.
Illinois refuse to offer Spraggins until 6 other schools offered him at Lindenwood. He chose Tennessee.

During the season, AJ, Powell, Spraggins and Witherspoon all said they would go to Illinois together and try to win on the college level. Illinois said they only wanted AJ. That's when Sunkett made his tweet about Powell. So NO Illinois didn't offer 12 ESL to which only 2 chose Illinois.

When Illinois didn't take Macon, they lost Lovett and Lewis. They are not high on IW as a passer based on High School results. Before you say anything, they are kids and that is their thoughts on it. To me it is what it is but, you will not create a false narrative about things. Sunkett has no issue with Lovie and Illinois. The facts are the facts. All this can be verified by your friends on the staff. Once you do that, then you won't question the knowledge I have.

To be honest i think you are very confused about the way things are working. So in your version of reality Illinois would have had to take 2 mac level players and then that would have landed them AJ? And what sunket did to with powell was wrong. He lost all of his other offers but he didn't tweet at any other coaches then Illinois. Where is sunkets tweet at mizzou for revoking scholarships from his players? Or Purdue? Or Nebraska?

Why would any Coach respond to that? What is the topic? What is the purpose? Also if you really want someone on a call, you are gone to send out a blanket tweet?
I'm with you, Title. There were a number of these zoom calls promoted this month, each featuring a different coach, each without any hint of an agenda. The one @moggs3 posted, which was the last one, was with Miles Smith. How have the other zoom calls been received? I'm surprised they got one attendee. If the staff thinks these are effective invites and @Positive illini fan's indignation is a reflection of the staff's feeling towards the high school coaches, maybe they need to be let go ASAP.

Where did I say Sunkett asked for those four players to go to Illinois.
That is something those kids came up with not Coach Sunkett.
Mizzou has never went back on a offer. As a matter fact they have sent two kids to Juco and brought them to Mizzou

AJ, Powell and Spraggs supposedly had offers.
Nebraska and Purdue told Powell defense and he originally said No then tried to come back.

You keep trying to push this narrative of Mac level players which is BS. I heard Bellamy say this before with the Public league Chicago schools.

Let go of who exactly?

Okay so both Purdue and Nebraska rejected Powell. Where is sunkets tweet at them? And Powell and Witherspoon ended up at OVC level programs so yeah I would say they were OVC level players.

Whoever on the staff has the same level of indignation towards Illinois high school coaches who didn't attend the zoom meetings that you have. Maybe it's all of them.
I have no ill will towards Illinois coaches but I’m also realistic. We haven’t been getting top kids in state for a decade. I know many coaches that root for our success and they can’t force kids to stay home. But also I’ve seen coaches who want us to take their scraps while they send their best players out of the state. We need to improve as a program in order to draw kids back. But trust me when I saw we aren’t gonna build a good enough roster with the scraps (25-35 ranked kids) in Illinois. It’s a smart decision to look out of state. These problems aren’t new and they won’t go away quickly. Hiring some guy from Naperville central isn’t gonna all of the sudden make kids wanna stay home.

And Illinois offered an OVC player dude!!
So maybe then Illinois was correct in turning him down? If he ended up there it was his own doing. If he turned down two D1 schools then ended up at Murray state whose fault is that? Should sunket still be tweeting negatively about the very program you claim he supports wholeheartedly?

It’s Powell’s fault like I said from the Beginning and yes he can tweet negative just like he tweet positive!! Especially If he felt a certain way about it. Hell with the BS I posted plus the refusal to hire Terry Hawthorne he should technically ban Illinois. Yet he still post in support of Lovie but, you keep posting BS pushing a false narrative!!

Okay so Powell caused himself to end up at the OVC but yet sunket still tweeted out negativity about the program because why? I’m just saying I’ll wait for sunket to tweet out a pro illini edit featuring players and then I’ll eat my words. Until then I know what is really happening and you can keep believing everything is Illinois fault and sunket walks on water.

Okay so then what if they responded cause he wasn’t talented enough. Then is everything okay? Does thank make him happier?
If that’s how they felt! Just remember you took a Mac level or below Trinity player! Every High school in Illinois and Missouri knows this. Hard to stand on something when you make moves like that.

Well considering we’ve gotten 5 kids from trinity in the last 4 years maybe there is some good faith there.

I don't think you are realistic. I don't think it's realistic to call out coaches for not attending those zoom meetings. To me, those invites were insulting to coaches, like they have nothing better to do with their time than see what Miles Smith has to say about...??? My concern is that you're expressing a petty, unreasonable outlook of the staff. How else did you know only one school showed up for Miles' zoom meeting?

It is literally like an advertisement. Yes. You get an opportunity to talk to your in state coaching staff. I have a pretty good feeling they would send an agenda when coaches contact them. THEY LITERALLY GAVE IN STATE COACHES AN OPPORTUNITY TO REACH OUT TO THEM TO BUILD A RELATIONSHIP. They do not need to post their whole agenda on Twitter. You guys must be on the Lovie needs to go train or something. Or the Illinois isn't gonna be very good this year train.

I think it’s realistic for coaches to want to build a relationship with the flagship school. If they don’t want to attend then that’s fine but don’t cry to others that Illinois isn’t putting forth a effort. And it wasn’t miles meeting, it was bellamys. One school showed up, I work for a recruiting service and @moggs3 confirmed the same thing. One school showed up to bellamys zoom meeting. And you are misinformed. They were set invites to the meeting through their AD and directly to the coaches. The ones on twitter were not the invites sent.

Well this thread is off the rails. I'll check in a few days. Too many posters accused of being misinformed.

My apologies to you. I think it is time that we all just agree to disagree. No one is changing their stance. I just want to see Illinois win football games and win our state back. I live how we are doing in FL and other states but it is always better when we are getting in state kids too. Sorry for the bickering. Go Illini!
