Absolutely! Twice. I’m sure they have their reasons.

What position was it for? I was all for Hawthorne or Chris James in staff. Trust me I do not think the staff has done great in state and the way they went about things. Not all on them though either.

I thought we were done with this??? I am friends with the I-West coach. He said he was the only coach that attended the zoom meeting for Bellamy and they talked for about 40 minutes and build a relationship. And idk...having all your in state coaches in a zoom meeting seems like a pretty good time to sell your program to me. They are sure doing something right in FL. They would not do the right things in FL and the wrong things in IL unless there was a good reason. What misinformation have I personally brought? I'm no insider. I hear things every now and then and share when I do.
I didn't appreciate your assumption that I must be on the Lovie must go train, so I felt I had to reply. I agree having all the in state coaches on for a zoom call would be great for Illinois, I just don't see what benefit the high school coaches would get out of it. Out of respect for your contributions to this board, to answer your question, @Positive illini fan has said that this post of yours was misinformation (in other words, this was not the invitation sent):
Looks like a pretty open invite to me. Must not have been interested.View attachment 6143

This is weak. I know she is from texas but I am sure she is capable of sending out a zoom meeting invite to coaches. The interview I posted on here, she said Lovie told her step 1 was to connect with Illinois. They put the call out, the ILL coaches didn't show up. Put it to bed
Sending out a mass invite to a Zoom meeting doesn't strike me as being a very good way to build a relationship. You have to show the coaches some love, focus on them 1:1, not 1:100

That's her job, I'm sure she will figure it out.

you are spot on. Their efforts are elsewhere which is fine. Especially if they are landing the recruits. I just don’t understand the need to window dress the desire to recruit in state when reality shows differently. Making up BS about in state coaches just to camouflage the desire to recruit elsewhere. As long as you win, who cares where the kids are coming from. No need to lie about it.

The High School relations job was mentioned before however I am not exactly sure which two jobs he interviewed for.

That is fair. They literally said to contact Washington if interested. To me it seems like a meet in the middle. They are giving an opportunity. Positive (who has a very good connection) and would likely be able to find out what the staff did also said they sent invites out to every school. Not sure where the misinformation is there. Then Title says Sunkett never got one. To me it sounds like our typical in state mess. Maybe Sunkett didn't get one and Illinois has decided to cut ties? Idk.

Those are very interesting. And I am not saying that Title is wrong about some things he is saying. But this is a two way street in state. Lovie and the Illini staff need to put more of an effort in, but the high school coaches haven't made it easy on him. Especially Sunkett and Chicago coaches.
What more do you think Sunkett and other coaches should do? What do you think they are not doing that they should be doing?

What is the staff dressing up and lying about though? Honest question. You think they just have no desire to recruit their own state? Just makes no sense to me.

Then why hire a Texas person to help with relationships in Illinois? That doesn't make sense to me. Would you hire a high school coach from Chicago to recruit the Trinity kids from St. Louis? When they wanted kids out of Florida they hired a Coach from Florida. When they wanted kids from Texas, they hired people from Texas. Not sure why this is difficult to understand.

I cannot argue that. I agree with that for sure.

Do you know how many emails AD's are getting daily? With this Covid situation, emails are coming non stop. That is not the best way to get someone attention. Would you send an email to the High School to get in touch with a recruit? Set up a zoom call via email without confirmation of receipt? The Coaches Clinic in March have hundreds of coaches attend from all over the state. You don't find it odd that just ONE high school attended the zoom call? This is not bashing the system, just stating facts. 500 emails and only one join sounds like something need to fixed with a different approach.

Again..the staff is not innocent. I have said that. I do not think they are doing well in state. They have made an effort with zoom IMO. Maybe not the greatest strategy in some people's eyes. That is fine. Nothing left to argue about.

Since you are plugged in ESL (which is cool, glad we have someone here who is), is there a way Illinois gets there foot back in the door there or is it a lost cause?

Their foot isn’t out the door. Right now there are a couple guys in 2022 and 2023 that the staff is aware of. It’s up to them to offer or not. Illinois is usually first to evaluate ESL talent personally.

The staff was disappointed that they chose the kid from Texas over Tyler but it’s also a business decision.

Sunkett has been doing this for a lot of years and Illinois has gotten 2 of the top 5 kids he ever Coached. Christian Morton and Terry Hawthorne. Mizzou got 2, Damien Nash and Tyler Macon. Miami got the other in Jeff Thomas.

Lol you are so wrong it’s hilarious. Show me a single positive tweet from sunket about Illinois in the last 18 months. Sunket tried to force the staffs hand publicly to take a player. And Lovie doesn’t take crap from anyone, especially some high school coach. He pissed Lovie off and I doubt Lovie wants to deal with him anymore, hence the lack of going to his school. So I’ll ask again please show me a single pro Illinois tweet since his Powell tweet. Cause he’s been pumping out mizzou tweet like he works for the recruiting department.

I appreciate all the information. There’s clearly a big gap in perceptions.

I'm disappointed about Hawthorne not being hired, but that’s just my personal disappointment. I would love to habe him in Champaign and think he would boost recruiting substantially

Well considering we’ve gotten 5 kids from trinity in the last 4 years maybe there is some good faith there.

Come on. We can't compare the "faith" between Trinity and Illinois to any other program and claim another high school is falling short. If an Illinois high school said to give us the same treatment as Trinity (i.e., hire the head coach to be on UI staff), we would (all) mock them endlessly.

I’m not comparing. Title said we reached for a Mac level player at trinity (assuming he’s talking about Childress) and I made the point that we have a strong relationship there. So maybe we are more willing to reach for a prospect at a school where we have a strong relationship. Pretty simple.

If it makes you feel better with the last 2 recruits we have passed both IU & PU.
“Weeeeeeeee!!!”

I’m very realistic. This puts us back above the floor. We are not Michigan but we sure as hell better be above those two dynasties.
