I'm actually not going to disagree with you. Don't know if he is a +/- for the team relative to another competent trainer. I just disagree with the argument that players should not do strength training midseason, and that this is a legitimate reason for poor play. Strength training has never been anything but positive for me
I may have misspoke at some point: I never intended to say training throughout the season shouldn’t occur. The smartest thing said about Fletch (including my drivel) was that our players have remained healthy. Kudos where due.
I think our team problem with poor FT late and jumpers is a combination of our style of play and the freshman not providing enough lift to relied upon. As that has improved, our early season struggles may disappear. IMO, better recruiting and our current roster improvement is going to solve this. Players will play hard and then get pulled to rest. Then be fresh again next rotation.
Our S&C coach has a cult following that is really kinda weird considering where we are and have been in his tenure. Not his fault. However, our athletes are going to work out and grow from age 18-22 no matter if it’s Illini Fletch or Irwin M Fletcher.
In short, I agree with you.
