Are they? Still waiting on anything to happen to Sean Miller, Will Wade, Bill Self, etc... The only over-sight is the illusion of over-sight. The NCAA obviously doesn't care, and I gotta believe this is pretty low on the FBI to do list.

Sean Miller & Co. just got hit with 9 infractions (5 level 1) so something can still happen. Self also got hit with accusations and KU's responses was basically "It's the NCAA's fault." I don't know what's going on with that one.

Wake me up when these blue blood schools are actually hit with any significant penalties.... as opposed to Gardner-Webb getting sanctions for one of their athletes getting cream cheese on his/her bagel.

Obviously these programs deserve penalties, but, you're right, I doubt the penalties will add up to much. After the UNC fiasco, I don't think the NCAA has any legitimacy.

Like I said, something can happen. That doesn't mean it will. I live here in Tucson. Should be entertaining.

If the NCAA was smart they would.

The NCAAs existence is under threat via challenges to their amateurism model and the increased autonomy of the P5 schools.

These blue bloods being busted by the feds is the perfect argument that these schools and conferences are not capable of self policing.

No awards for second place, but I guess we really were in it to the very end. Hopefully our pitch to Top 30 recruits will improve once we put some more players into the NBA. Certainly shouldn't hurt.

A lot of you need to calm down. We've lost on some recruits. It's not the end of the world.

...now if we lose out on Mac Etienne...

Sorry if this has already been posted, but does anyone have any insight into why Hopkins played for Mokan on the AAU circuit? It's probably not all that out of the ordinary to play for a team that's based 8 or 9 hours away, though it doesn't seem ideal. I know Kahlil Whitney did it with MIF, but he had previous ties to Chicago.

Perhaps with the next one we go after, we should just recruit the AAU handlers. At some point in time, these guys are going to start facing some serious allegations, and find themselves being watched by the FBI. I have zero doubt that some of them are still filtering money and "other stuff" to these recruits.

I question when someone says "I really wanted the opinion of my AAU coaches You have parents that have driven you back and forth for years, worked overtime and extra jobs to pick up the expenses, and brought you into the world, but don't have a family conversation to decide the future. Instead, going to let the AAU programs be your handler, they only have one thing in mind đź’° đź’°đź’°.

You don't know how much influence Hopkin's AAU team had on his decision.

Just so we're clear...Mokan received bags of money to influence Hopkins to UK? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.
Many of the elite players come from poor backgrounds. They can’t afford the fees to rent gyms, enter tourneys, fly to a different city, or stay in a team hotel. This could cost a player thousands so the elite teams get sponsorships so the kids play for free. In effect, they do get big bags of cash in the form of a legitimate check to run their AAU organization.

I doubt Mokan got extra $ to influence this decision but the stronger Mokan becomes as an AAU organization the more sponsorship money they can demand. A Kentucky recruit would be a huge trophy to mount on their wall.

Check out Malcolm Hill’s High School AAU team the SW IL Jets homepage sometime. They have every D1 player they’ve ever coached listed prominently.

That was my point. Previous poster stated UK dropped bags off on Mokan's front step, and, insinuated this was his reason for choosing UK. A slap in the face to the recruit and his family.

You have this one backwards - Mokan wanted UK for the prestige and pipeline. Despite what you think... they were a big part of the decision.

I'm sure they were. I get that and don't dispute it. Oldskoolkoach insinuated GH was overly influenced by Mokan, and in turn, Mokan was receiving bags of $$$ for pushing BH to UK. This recruitment was family guided all the way. Mokan had a voice like many others but to say they were they primary reason doesn't wash with me.

Poster said, "I question when someone says "I really wanted the opinion of my AAU coaches You have parents that have driven you back and forth for years, worked overtime and extra jobs to pick up the expenses, and brought you into the world, but don't have a family conversation to decide the future... Never put words in my mouth. When you use the word "insinuated" you are the one putting words in people's mouths.

Never once did I say UK dropped bags of money anywhere, but AAU teams have been a constant in-between for transactions for years. The article did very clearly state by his father that his AAU team had a strong part of the decision.

Better check yourself and your "insinuating."

What was your point, then, as it relates to BH, Mokan and the recruitment? You said, "Perhaps with the next one we go after, we should just recruit the AAU handlers... This clearly relates to BH, his recruitment, and, the perception you're leaving is obvious.

Later you said, "It's the AAU programs receiving the bags of money...

You also said BH was unduly influenced, not by his family "that have driven you back and forth for years, worked overtime and extra jobs to pick up the expenses") but in the end "don't have a family conversation to decide the future".

You said it, not me. The above insinuates Mokan received bags to overly influence BH even over his family. I'm not buying it. And, I've repeatedly said I agree with the premise Mokan had/has influence over recruits, that's not the dispute.

Said this once we offered, but this really is one to watch. They love his game. Chin has us extremely involved with this one.

There should be a separate thread for crying about recruiting. That would keep the wild accusations, which seem to only come out immediately following a commitment when we're not chosen, to a minimum here.

I won’t talk badly about TyTy since he could absolutely be a huge piece of our program, especially if Miller leaves early for the NBA. But ultimately we need to recruit a top 50 4 or 5 in this class or a knock out transfer or it’s going to be a failed class.

I hate to be the guy sticking up for the NCAA, but you can get cream cheese on your bagel, just not flavored cream cheese.

I would say "a 4 or 5 that can play". With my limited knowledge of this, it appears that players get rated on future NBA potential, especially bigs. I believe Giorgi will contribute more to U of I on the floor than Meyers. And, no disrespect to Meyers. Glad that he was and is and Illini. Meyers had one of the best high school highlight dunks EVER!

ps- waiting for someone to post the dunk
