Victory at the Dean Dome

Illinois snapped North Carolina's 21-game home win streak and enjoyed a modicum of April revenge last night in a 68-64 victory against a good group of young Tar Heels. James Augustine (13 & 13) and Rich McBride (12 pts, 5 asts.) were solid, Jamar Smith had 3 huge 3-pointers, Dee Brown led the way with 14 but some of his stats (5 TOs, 0-6 3-pt.) served to add fuel to his critics. The Illini had a nice 64-50 lead late in the 2nd half, but for 6 agonizing minutes UI were shut down offensively and UNC slowly tip-toed backed into the game. Brian Randle—who made outstanding plays all night—saved the day with an offensive rebound off Jamar Smith's missed FT with 0:15 left to allow Dee to seal the win at the line.
