Bench Sparks Illini Past Air Force
March 16, 2006 10:41 PM
A very strange day at Cox Arena in San Diego saw a bomb scare that evacuated the building prior to the afternoon session (and delayed all 4 NCAA games at the site), and an empty arena at the tipoff of the Illinois - Air Force contest because of the short turnaround time between the afternoon and evening sessions. On the court the Illini bench provided the fuel to power past the game Falcons tonight, 78-69. Warren Carter scored 10 in the first half and Jamar Smith cemented the 1st Round win with 17 2nd half points. Dee Brown only had 8 points but dished 10 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds; Brian Randle had 15 points and 7 rebounds. Up next: 5th seed Washington Huskies at 4:30pm Saturday.
