Memorial Stadium work still on target

Warren Hood has heard every imaginable doom-and-gloom rumor: Construction is lagging. There's no way the renovation of Memorial Stadium will be ready for the University of Illinois' football home opener Sept. 6 against Eastern Illinois. Delays have crippled progress.

All the rumors made Hood, the university's associate athletic director, chuckle as he sat in his office this week.

"We're doing good," said Hood, who has been the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' point man on the $120 million renovation project that will bring Illini football into the 21st century. "There's no question we are going to make it."
