Illinois Renaissance Celebration and the new Memorial Stadium
Saturday was the unveiling of the new West Side renovation to Memorial Stadium and the Renaissance Celebration. The 10 best players at each position in Illini history were honored in breaks during the game, and the team wore 1960s throwback jerseys which are being auctioned off this week. The stadium got rave reviews and the throwback uniforms looked fantastic. The attendance of 60,131 was the largest crowd for a home-opener since 1995, yet was disappointingly 2,000 short of a sellout.
