Illinois-Indiana breakdown

Indiana
Ron Zook on Tuesday said he fully expects Hoosier QB Kellen Lewis to play after suffering a high ankle sprain in the Iowa game, that and Indiana always gives Illinois its best game. With that, some numbers:
  • Illinois leads the series 42-20-2. The Illini have won 10 of the last 11 games in Champaign, the loss being the 2006 Homecoming meltdown. (Go back in time and read about the 1988 Jeff George comeback here.)
  • Outside of QB Kellen Lewis (221.5 total offense/game) and RB Marcus Thigpen (153 all purpose yards/game), Indiana is thin at offensive weapons. Lewis is the team's leading rusher (67 yd/game), and no receiver is average more than 45 yd/game.
  • As bad as Illinois has been in turnover margin for the season (-2), Indiana is worse (-4).
  • DE Jammie Kirlew is 3rd in the league in sacks (6).
  • This will be the worse rushing defense Illinois has faced in conference play. Indiana is ranked 8th in the Big Ten giving up 139 yards/game on the ground. The Hoosier's pass defense isn't that great either, ranked 8th (218 yd/game).
  • Illini conference leaders: Juice Williams is tops in passing yards (279) and total offense (353). Arrelious Benn is 2nd in receptions (6.2) and receiving yards (94). Brit Miller leads in tackles per game (10.2).
