McClain inducted into Illinois BB Coaches Hall of Fame

A big portion of the praise from outside the basketball office went to Howard, even though Illinois coach Bruce Weber and McClain laid the groundwork. McClain taught Richardson's father and felt the commitment from Richardson "was a done deal.''

"We're on the same team,'' McClain said. "I heard the things. Naturally people want to spin it. That's OK. At the end of the day, I know. I'm glad for Jerrance. Nobody pushed Jerrance to be here more than I did.''

McClain, who will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, isn't ready to consider himself a career assistant. He still has aspirations of directing a Division I program, although McClain won't take any job just to say he's a head coach.
