Illini need strong finish to make case for NCAAs

Heading into Illinois' basketball game today at No. 4 Purdue, here are some words of advice for the Illini from Jerry Palm, the RPI guru: "Finish strong."

The Illini, who have padded their Big Ten Conference win total against the league's bottom feeders after a mediocre non-conference season, still have work to do if they want to return to the NCAA tournament.

"They've been hit-and-miss all year," Palm said. "That's got to stop. They've got to get hits and win on the road. The win at Wisconsin was great. They're still trying to make up for a really indifferent non-conference performance."
