Illinois had a senior moment Sunday
January 3, 2011 9:18 AM
Mike Davis had 11 points and 14 rebounds - his third double-double this season and the 27th of his career - and subbed out to an appreciative ovation from the audience. Bill Cole had 11 points and made three more three-pointers. He's 11-for-16 on threes over the past five games.
Then came Demetri McCamey (21 points, seven assists), who went all Mariano Rivera to close it out. He scored 10 straight points late in the second half. The dagger - one of two that he hit - was a three-pointer over Keaton Nankivil as the Illinois offense went into sloth mode. That gave Illinois an 11-point lead with 2:55 left.
McCamey had made another three-pointer - two minutes earlier - early in the shot clock. He launched it from right in front of Bruce Weber, who gave the "No-no-no-no-no... good shot" look from the sideline.
