ESPN GameDay: Spartans, Illini in national spotlight

"I'm so excited about it, and I'm anxious to see how our fans react," said MSU coach Tom Izzo, who is calling for fans to pack Breslin for the free live broadcast of the "GameDay" preview show, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Gates open at 8.
When the game was scheduled, MSU (14-11 overall, 6-7 Big Ten) and Illinois (17-9, 7-6) were preseason top-15 teams that figured to be jousting at the top of the Big Ten standings.
Instead, MSU is battling to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, and Illinois is not yet a lock for an invitation. This game does not have the sizzle that was anticipated in the fall, though desperate teams can make for compelling TV.
