Ron Guenther: "I'm ready to do something else. My gut tells me it's the right time to move on"
May 16, 2011 1:16 PM
He says he'll be done July 1st - "In my gut, the timing felt right" to step down
Says he may return as sort of a special assistant to the director in the future
Illinois could have new AD by July 1. But even if they don't, Guenther is still done on that day.
If necessary, they would name an interim AD. However, they hope to have a replacement by July 1st.
Guenther will not be on the committee to find a replacement, but is "ready and willing to help". Has not been asked to do so yet though
Guenther: We have several people in the department who should be considered as a potential replacement
Guenther: Weber and Zook may have been surprised, but he assured them everything is in a good position going forward
Guenther had another two-year option, but was concerned that the department would not be able to participate in a succession plan later.
