He has fought through a string of aches and pains during his Illinois career. The latest will cost fullback/tight end Zach Becker the rest of the season.
The former St. Joseph-Ogden standout suffered a broken ankle with 9:20 left in the first quarter. He was carted off the field. Later, he returned to the sidelines on crutches and with his leg in a cast.
"You feel bad for him," Illinois coach Ron Zook said. "Like I told them in the locker room, that's why you play every play like it's your last because you never know. It's the bad part about the game."
