Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson, who coached two national champions at Miami, is a former Montana State quarterback. Arizona State defensive coordinator Craig Bray worked with Paul Petrino in the mid-1980s at Idaho.

"I'd wash his back deck to make some extra money," Petrino said. "I was making about $500 a month, and he used to help me out.

"For me, it's exciting to play those guys. Coach Erickson is a Montana guy. The quarterback (Brock Osweiler) is a Montana guy. My dad and coach Erickson have been friends for years."
