Although I think we'd beat either of them, if we were to lose to the Cubs I don't think I'd be able to stand it, so I'd prefer the Pirates.

We have NEVER faced the Cubs in the postseason and I don't care if we lost, this is the series I want.

The wildcard winner is 3-3 against the 1 seed since the wildcard was established 3 years ago. And of course last year 2 wild cards met in the World Series. So far there isn't much of a disadvantage in having to start the best pitcher in the wildcard game, but the sample size is too small to really tell.

You must not live in central Illinois. I want nothing to do with a Cards/Cubs series.

I grew up in the Quad Cities. My dad's side of the family were all Cubs fans, and my mom's side were all Cardinals fans. I hate the Cubs as much as anyone else, however when people talk about greatest rivalries in sports they always say well the Cubs Cardinals really isn't much of a rivalry because they have never met in postseason. I would hate to lose to them but there is more history to be made by playing them than their is to playing the Pirates. This is why I want this. I get it, not everyone agrees with me but this would be the series I want.

Has anyone gone to BPV during the playoffs? I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it. It must be nearly impossible to get a table to sit down.

I went last year for Game 2 against the Dodgers when they were in LA. I got there really early, like at the start of the 4:00 game, and was able to get a table to eat at and then got seats for the group upstairs along the railing. Was very crowded but a really good time. IIRC, the beer prices were not terrible since the team was out of town.

I would absolutely recommend it and want to go again this year if I am home for a weekend from school. Just get there early if you want a seat. Not terrible to get there early either. Watch the other games and be able to get food and drink some cold beer.

@tmckernan: Rick Hummel: I am not as confident that Jon Jay will be on the playoff roster as I was a week ago. I think it'll be Tommy Pham.

Please, please, please

Have we heard what the playoff rotation will be? I think if it is the Cubs we should try and get Jaime and Lackey 2 starts and only 1 for Lynn or Wacha, but the schedule probably won't allow for that in a 5 game series. I think the Cubs have a great fastball hitting lineup and could tee off on Lynn and Wacha like they have of late. Jaime and Lackey have better breaking and off-speed stuff to keep them from sitting dead red. I think Lackey and Jaime start 1 and 2 at home, let Wacha and Lynn pitch in Chicago and go with Jaime for a game 5 in STL if necessary. Wacha and Lynn pitching in Chicago might not be a bad thing as the the weather should be cooler and the winds off the lake could and should be blowing in.

Should it be the Pirates, I think we should something separate them a little. Jaime, Wacha, Lackey, Lynn, and Jaime should it go all 5.

I could also seeing Matheny getting Waino in a game early should one of the pitchers struggle early and see what he can do. He is a bulldog and leader, hell magic is made here right?

Only thing I would have to disagree with is who you have going in game 5. I want Lackey on the bump when it matters most. He has a knack to pitch his best in the biggest of big games. Game 7 of the 2002 World Series as a rookie, and Game 6 of the 2013 World Series. He is the ultimate competitor, and I want him on the mound. Nothing against Jamie cause he pitches his !!! off at home, but give me Lackey.

I wonder how these new rules (to speed up the game) will affect the postseason. This is where it should make the biggest impact. The postseason is amazing, but the 4+ hour games really suck the fun out of it.

Oh boy. its here. This is almost as exciting as a Cards post season game. Im really interested to see this pitching matchup and how each team responds to adversity. I think the pirates experience will come into play here. Plus, the Cubs are the media darling this am - every sports and news show cant stop talking about Back-to-the-Future and the Cubbies. No one is talking about the Pirates even though they have an Ace pitching and have played well the entire season.

I'm predicting 4-2 Pirates. My prediction will probably be wrong. :)
