Really want to see Spotlight.

Has anyone seen Secret in Their Eyes, I saw the foreign made version and it was excellent even reading the subtitles.

I am also curious about Jerusalem, if anyone knows about it.

Caught Secret in Their Eyes last week. Went in with low expectations, as you said, the original was excellent, and thought it was solid. Chiwetel Ejiofor is an incredibly talented actor.

I'll be catching The Force Awakens early next week. No spoilers!

Force Awakens was awesome. Pretty sure I had a smile on my face 95% of the movie.

Yup - even though the plot seemed quite familiar, I just couldn't get enough. I may go see it again next week.

Saw "The Force Awakens" yesterday. If I'd not grown up with the original trilogy I'd probably review it as a mediocre script with high production values. Given that I did grow up with the originals, was disappointed by episodes I - III, and was looking forward to sharing new SW experiences with my (now young adult) kids, it was very entertaining, but also very derivative. There is a lot of setup for the next episode(s), and I'm also looking forward to the spin-offs they've announced. A Boba Fett movie could be a lot of fun, and the Han Solo origin story ought to be a riot.

And then there's this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3748528/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Has anyone noticed in the movie trailer for Concussion about 5 seconds in, it looks like the Bears are playing at memorial stadium. Did some research and looks like, based on uniforms , it might be week 12 Detroit Lions game from the 2002 season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vDWedC_7PE

That trailer did catch my eye. It was unexpected but sure looked like Memorial Stadium to me. Probably need to watch the whole movie to get the context Wonder if the athletic dept. needed to give the ok to use that film clip.

It sure is that game. I was attending that game, I believe that is Marcus Robinson on that catch.

Saw the new Star Wars movie. There was a lot that I liked, and a lot that I disliked. I really don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't watched it, but, in IMO, it was definitely better then Episodes I, II, & III, but not as good as Episodes, IV, V, & VI.

Just saw it myself. Agree that it is definitely better than I, II, & III. But while not as good as IV, I thought it was at least as good, if not better, than V and VI. Just my two cents. :thumb:

Better than Empire? I guess mileage varies.

My list, FWIW of the existing 7 movies, is as follows:

Empire (V)
Jedi (VI)
Awakens (VII)
New Hope (IV)
II
III
I

BTW, Consequence of Sound (which is a website I LOVE For film, music, and other related ephemera) ranked every SW film and TV production here:

http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/12/ranking-every-star-wars-film-and-tv-show-from-worst-to-best/

It's a good read. I'd put the Holiday Special dead last, but their reasons why not are valid.

And another BTW, if you haven't seen the Holiday Special, go here, but don't blame me when you realize you've wasted a big chunk of your day on something so horrible.

Just got out of The Big Short and I must say I enjoyed it tremendously. I highly recommend it.

You may be right about "Empire". Been a long, long time since I've seen it.

Doubtful. The NFL owns the rights to that video.

For what it's worth, here's what the viewers voting on the Internet Movie Data base rate each episode (10 is the highest possible score):

V (Empire): 8.8 (757,561 votes)
IV (Hope): 8.7 (829,492)
VII (Awakens): 8.7 (239,461)
VI (Return): 8.6 (608,163)
III (Revenge): 7.7 (472,421)
II (Attack): 6.7 (420,336)
I (Phantom): 6.5 (487,908)

I was at that game too. A friend of my parents had a daughter who worked for Budweiser at the time and was able to get us into one of the tailgates they had there outside Memorial Stadium. Our seats were about the 5th row from the field at about the 25 yard line.

And I think you might be right about that being Marcus Robinson. If it's not him, then it looks like it could be Dez White.

Also, and if you were at that game you'd remember this, this was the infamous game where Marty Mornhinweg elected to kickoff the ball to the Bears rather than receive because he thought the wind would be more in the Lions' favor.

Went and saw the movie tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've never been that highly invested into the whole Star Wars series (heck, it wasn't until recently that I'd seen each of the films all the way through) but I really liked what I saw with this film. As others mentioned, you had just the right amount of cameos from the original series in this film to satisfy the long time fans. It had the right amount of humor too. I especially liked when Finn was basically b.s.ing saying he was all about the resistance. The back and forth between him and BB-8 was great too.

A few thoughts on some films I've seen in the past week:

-The Revenant: Caught an advanced-ish screening last night. Breathtakingly beautiful, this very well could be a 3rd straight Oscar win for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. Leo definitely gave it his best shot for his longed Best Actor win. The story was a slow burn, but it had me glued to the screen. 4/4

-The Big Short: Adam McKay really surprised me with this one. There is plenty of comedy in this film, but it is coated with a sense of uneasiness. Everyone in this film is likable in a way, except the big bankers. 3.5/4

-Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The biggest takeaway from the latest chapter is the new characters. Kylo Ren, while somewhat babyfaced, makes for a great villain. Rey was fierce and fearless. Finn and Poe are going to be a fun duo in the upcoming films. General Hux was more intimidating than any I can recall from the previous installments. And of course BB-8 was adorable. I'm interested in learning more about Snoke. For me, the story left plenty to be desired, but acted as a perfect set up for the next films.

Somewhat related, as he is a major cast member of two of the films above, but it's hard to top the 2015 that Domhnall Gleeson had. Ex Machina, Brooklyn, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and The Revenant. Quite the resume builder.

Didn't have the highest of expectations for it, but Joy was really a letdown. Too many unnecessary characters, a mangled story, and a tidy ending that could only be conceived by David O. Russell or the writers of a Scooby Doo episode. No standout performances and despite a unique script, it was rather unmemorable.

1.5/4

My daughter said the same thing. Said it was the worst movie she has ever seen and actually fell asleep in the theater while watching it.

I appreciate the head's up. I actually wanted to see it, I'll wait for HBO.

I made my family watch I - VI prior to seeing VII. Must say, a little disappointed. I heard too many good things and let my expectations swell. Without expectations, I would say it is a good movie.

I just got back from the 70mm Roadshow version of the Hateful Eight. Classic Tarantino. I really enjoyed the comedic bits and there were tons of memorable one-liners. The violence definitely ramps up after the intermission. Highly recommended (as long as you're not too politically correct).
