Shaw fell off but his freshman and sophomore year he was PHENOMENAL. He was dominate and was a fantastic player, junior and senior year he was still very good, but When Shaw was a Freshman I believe he was top 20 in the country, Tracy was also right there.

Was he actually a better player as a freshman and sophomore than as a junior and senior or was he just projected to be a better player??

It is fairly rare that a player was actually better as a younger player, unless of course they deal with some major injuries.

I dont think he really got any better after Sophomore year. He peaked too early in my opinion.

Visiting his sisters, we can hope. Perhaps he will announce before flying home?

Rumor has it that he is staying in Dallas this weekend, so go figure.:)

I feel like when a guy makes a trip from another country you want the last visit since he came all the way and will take all visits no matter what.

Maybe he really did want to stay near his sisters? Or maybe SMU is killing it this year and wowed the crap out of him...

Oh well, crazy things happen in recruiting. I'm not betting on us but we will see how it goes.

If his sister's hooked him up with the best looking girl at SMU, would that be a violation.

Given the cost of international airfare, I've gotta think Harry and his father planned in advance the extra weekend in Dallas where his twin sisters go to school.

That does not make the Illini's chances any better, but it does say that the extended stay is not a tea leaf in favor of SMU.

There are fewer "street agent" types in central and southern IL. Makes for a more straightforward recruitment a lot of the time.

Ain't that truth! I still remember the Tom Izzo comment about "handlers" from the 2013 Big Ten Media Day (and most of us know it was CA's recruitment he was talking about). When he made that comment, I got out of the camp of "Illinois needs to recruit 5-star players from Chicago". If a 5-star Chicago player wants to come to Illinois great, but when recruiting those players in Chicago, Groce and others coaches need to tread lightly and not waste all of their resources on them. Folks do not have time non-sense.

The only schools the Chicago "handlers" of 5-star players, care about are Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and "on a good day" Louisville. I use to include Michigan State in that "on a good day" section, but it looks like the "handlers" burned that bridge with Izzo. But the great thing about Izzo, he has built a couple of monster classes since then and without the assistance of those looser 5-star handlers from Chicago. Good for Izzo! As far as I know, Izzo has not been back to Chicago since CA's recruitment, but if I'm wrong, let me know; but I think if Izzo did return to Chicago to recruit, it would only be for a 3-star (like Gavin Schilling) or maybe 4-star players that fit his system, but he's going to stay far away from that 5-star non-sense with these "handlers".

Guys I understand, that Illini basketball is struggling right now, but I'm hoping Groce will still right the ship and have the opportunity to build a great 2017 class, that I believe will catapult Illini basketball back to prominence and stick it to those 5-star Chicago "handlers", that he and Illinois can build a solid program without their help.

I did not think I was going to write this much on this subject, but every time I think of the 5-star Chicago "handlers", it makes my blood boil. Sorry about the rant.

We really could "stick it to those handlers" by landing a great class with all of our in state targets currently not from Chicago. Pickett was a great start.

We should really stick it to those 5-star Chicago handlers and recruits. After all, what are they going to do without us?

Hoped he had left the country before the Indiana game.

He was at SMU game that night. :) He tweeted that every place he went to he saw a winner. He did pick a great one though for UI visit===Purdue game.

Like the Pickett pick-up but we have our current wings (JDL, Jordan, Kipper) not sure we need more. By the way, Kipper was the steal of class IMHO. Hope to get a big for the 2016 class and identify a couple targets beyond Tatum.

From what I have seen on video of the younger Finke, he appears to be a solid pick up for 2018. Love to get Damonte, but once again he needs to be a PG primarily. Confident that Jordan and JCL can handle the SG duties in the future.
