Groce said tonight on his radio show that Nunn and Finke were unable to workout/practice today and that they are both questionable for Wednesday night.

So if they are out the starting lineup would be:

Tate
JCL
AJ
Hill
Mav

Of course, injuries are not a valid excuse.

If they don't play Wed., we're without 5 of our top 8-9 players. Wow.

If anyone still doesn't feel at least a tiny bit sorry for JG and the team after this news, not sure what to say. JG may need daily visits to the shrink after this season ends. Has to be torturous for him and for the players to go through all this. I coached sophomore ball for several years but thankfully never had to endure a season like this. He's got to be given one more year after a debacle like this one.

The battle of the "bottomfeeders."

You know the season isn't going well when one slotted on the BTN at 5:30 pm.

Play the freshman!!!!

Finke has a knee bruise and is day to day (bumped knee on knee with Nigel Hayes).

And would leave us with KL, AA and DJW as subs (assuming MT is still not available.) Time to see what the freshmen can do. Or time for Hill to score about 60.

Wow, talk about snakebit! Just not sure how anyone can expect much when missing this many key players. Say what you want, but the injury bug has bitten the Illini hard....

Groce needs daily visits to the shrink? How about us as well? My goodness, I have never seen a team hit like this in any sport. Wow!!

Groce: Michael Finke did not practice today for the second day in a row. "Very unlikely" for tomorrow.

Groce: Nothing structurally wrong with Finke's knee. Just has pain and swelling. Certainly will get better with time.

Groce: Nunn a little bit more probable than Finke. Will trust doctors on whether one or none can go tomorrow night.

Groce: Kendrick Nunn will be a gametime decision. Finke as well. Nunn more probable than Finke.

On the bright side, at least these happened when we play Rutgers. :tsk:

EDIT: I forgot DJ Williams. Fixed

Someone earlier said we'd be missing 5 of our top 8-9 guys. I wrote out my rankings (IMHO - feel free to disagree with me). I am also including Darius Paul who I saw play 0 minutes ever.

1) Hill - Active :chief:
2) Nunn - GTD :(
3) Coleman-Lands - Active :chief:
4) Thorne Jr. - Out :tsk:
5) Black - Out :tsk:
6) Abrams - Out :tsk:
7) Paul - Wasted opportunity / off team :mad::mad::mad:
8) Finke - GTD :(
9) Williams - Active :chief:
10) Morgan - Active :chief:
11) Jordan - Active :chief:
12) Tate - Active :chief:
13) Lewis - Active :chief:
14) Austin - Active :chief:
15) Liss - Active :chief:

By my count that would be 6 of the top 8 guys. Starters would be #1, 3, 9, 10, and 11 best players on the team with only #12, 13, 14 and 15 on the bench to give you any minutes.

We might lose to Rutgers, guys.

Or we could take the advice so often given to Groce on these boards and bench both point guards in favor of someone who poses a greater scoring threat. Our lineup would then be:

DJW
JCL
AJ
MH
MM.

That would leave AA on the bench to backup all five positions.

Does that work for you?

I'd put Abrams ahead of JCL, not because he's more talented, but because of the importance of having a scoring point guard. That's a bunch of missing talent.

I know that Hill and Nunn probably didn't need another mediocre season to fuel their fire, but I'm sure this season will show the new guys how hard they need to work in the summer. If they can't use this all as motivation to improve as a team, then I'm not sure what will. Next year, we will have everyone back but Thorne. There won't be any excuses for not being successful, unless they somehow manage to have even worse luck.

Beating Rutgers won't help with public perception, but it's damn good experience for a team that's been repeatedly kicked while down.
