The question isn't if we lose, it's by how much. This won't even be competitive.

There seems to be several people who despise Iowa as much as others despise Indiana. Is that possible? :)

Two words: Bruce Pearl.

That, and a lot of people who live in the quad cities metro area of illinois who get a healthy dose of Iowa in their media coverage and daily interactions. Same reason those of us in the stl area hate mizzou just as much if not more

Oh yes. Oohhh yes...I lived in southeast Iowa for 5 years after I graduated in 79. Absolutely insufferable.

AND Bruce Pearl...

I will live with 4-14 in the conference, if this one can be the 4th. Go Illini.

No, must include Penn State as well. It's doable, and I have resale tickets in what's no doubt in the middle of Penn State season ticket holder seating. And I have a big PSU fan at church. Did I mention that I live in Pennsylvania?

Penn State is a must-win, especially after that dreadful performance by the football team last fall.

Go Illini!

Groce: Thought our guys really stepped up to the plate; done that now 3 of the last 4 games when we've been in not ideal spots.

Groce: Thought there were a good number of things defensively we didn't do very well (vs Rutgers) — guarding the ball, PnR coverage.

Groce: Offensively (Iowa) very connected. Ball moves. They play with a lot of purpose.

Groce: (Iowa) just big and long and athletic. Good at both ends. We'll have to minimize mistakes, execute, be efficient offensively.

Groce: Thought we had one of our best practices of the year today. That was good.

Groce: Leron Black starting to get lack of soreness in knee. Swelling down.

Groce: Docs feel very good about (Black's) ability to eventually fully recover.

Groce: I don't foresee (Black) playing in games at this juncture. He's too far off and been out to long.

Groce: Mike Thorne able to move a little bit better. Soreness and swelling like Leron is down. How much of that is he's been inactive?

Groce: Michael Finke practiced today. Looked pretty good. Was fairly mobile. Looked good enough he may provide minutes vs. Iowa.

Groce: I would expect Nunn and Finke to be available vs. Iowa. How much? We'll see. Black, Thorne, Abrams not quite as ready.

Groce: Uthoff is a tough cover because of his size and skill and athleticism working in concert with that size. Plays both ends.

There seems to be several people who despi deep plansse Iowa as much as others despise Indiana. Is that possible? :)

Suppose it depends a bit on how close they live to Terra haute or Davenport. Nothing like having to rub elbows with unsufferable pricks on a daily basis

Glad to hear it! It's tough to give up on our team. When most people say they are fed up and not going to be a fan, I just write it off to their anger/disappointment getting the best of them at that moment. It always passes. Been there, done that, always back in time to watch the next game though, no matter what. :thumb:

I have tickets for the Penn State game, resale tickets, lower level, center court, which should put me right in the middle of all the PSU season ticket holders. The Fighting Illini best live up to their name or it's going to be a long night to be wearing my orange :chief: sweatshirt...and then go home--I live in PA--and endure the local Penn State crowd.

C'mon, guys, Penn State is doable.

A few observations before the Iowa game

1. Well the first observation is that I am going to a birthday party today at game time. My five-year old granddaughter made her first birthday cake for my younger son and his wife (they were born a day apart), so I will be attending that event -- I know Coach Groce will understand about family ties.

2. I don't know who will win today because I don't know which Illini team will show up. Iowa has a lot of talent, but college basketball is about match-ups, and we may match up against them better than our records would suggest -- I am hoping for Purdue, Part Deux.

3. There is often talk about turning corners in a college basketball season, but win or lose today we may have turned a corner at Rutgers. It would have been easy to give up and lose that game at several key moments, but Malcolm and company fought on and won. That may have been the proverbial corner.

4. It is a simple game. If we make our outside shots, I expect us to be competitive. I do hope Finke is back to 100% (no idea if that is the case) because I believe he could help in this game. Mav has improved, but I doubt he can hold off the Iowa front line by himself.

5. This will probably not be DJ Williams' coming out party, but someday he will have one. Today would be a good day to have it though.

6. I am trying to find it within myself to forgive Iowa for being the lowdown dirty lying scum that they are. That is still a work in progress.

7. Today would be a good time to call for a moratorium on the whole Groce debate. He will be the coach until the end of the season, and there will be plenty of time to rant after that. For now, it would be nice if we could just focus on supporting the players.

8. I predict that Malcolm will lead the team in multiple ways again today. If I am wrong about that, it will probably be either a very good thing or a very bad thing!

9. Beat Iowa. Beat 'em bad!

I totally agree with illini70math. I was thinking earlier that DJW could have a big game. The Illini are looking at this game scared and neither should us fans... Winning in triple overtime and getting a couple days off could be a very good thing too

I don't get the DJW breaking out with a big game. He didn't have big games in high school and most his points are on layups and he misses half of those.
