Indiana 74, Illinois 47 POSTGAME

Honestly, they pulled away when they hit some incredibly deep shots and we just continually missed wide open looks.

At some point guys just gotta be able to put the ball in the hoop and outside of JCL, no one was else was really able to do that tonight.

It's a little funny; we're not even half as god-awful as Indiana was, though, during the Capobianco (or whatever) years. They came back and so will we, in time. Plus, I'm grabbing at straws here to make myself feel better.

Every time I see this in the post game thread I laugh a little. That's probably the best I can hope for after most of these games.

Question for the board who is old enough to remember where that picture comes from. I am.

I think we can all agree that this one was entirely on Jaylon Tate and Alex Austin.

I've read a lot of comments to the effect of, "you can't judge john groce on this season because of the injuries". I disagree. The injuries make it more difficult to judge Groce's performance, but it doesn't make it impossible. In my opinion, this team, even in its current, depleted state has severely underperformed. Obviously, expectations changed considerably after the injuries, but I feel that the team has failed to meet even those lowered expectations

Was JW there tonight? If so, he must be extremely disappointed. This can't be acceptable to any AD, let alone an alum.

I understand we've had a lot of injuries, but why can't we even be competitive at home against any good team? No reason we should be losing by this much at home to IU.

We've over rated the individual talent level of the players we have left. Nunn has fabulous potential, but takes plays off on defense and is prone to throwing away possessions with bad shots. Hill isn't athletic enough to beat elite athletes and we don't move the ball well enough to get him in situations where he's already going to the bucket.

We're less than the sum of our parts. It's like going to the farmers market and buying some really fresh vegetables and then trying to make a cake with them. We've got people who can make shots, but nobody who can help them get a shot. Nobody who can erase mistakes on defense. Nobody who will rebound.

Need better game plans an/or better players.

Should we just itemize the excuses into one post to save everyone time?

1. We just can't expect to compete with all of these injuries
2. The refs were horrible
3. We just couldn't hit shots
4. We just don't have the horses
5. It just wasn't our night

Did I miss any?

I turned it off at the half.

I thought that final score was a joke until I checked ESPN.

I used to watch ALL Illini games beginning to end. Now, I forget when they are on or I watch sporadically.

I hate that we cannot even compete anymore.

How have we fallen so far?

True on some levels, but it's a coach's job to put his guys in positions to score. The fact that we've shot over 50% in one big ten game in Groce's tenure leads me to believe he struggles with this
