Seems like we should be happier about this? If he really is the #10 prospect in the state, those guys weren't even sniffing Illinois this year.

We should be. He is an Illinois legacy in a position of need. He is exactly in the middle of the venn diagram of what should make this board happy

I'm certainly happy about this. :chief:

For the past few years, it seems that many players thought of Illinois as their nightmare school. :tape:

Perhaps Ryan will help turn this around. :illinois:

Now I have to drive the 5 miles to watch him play next fall.

Welcome Ryan! Love your Illini passion!

This is exactly what most people on here have been asking for. A good in state kid, the kind of recruit we all know we need to get in order to build success.

Film looks good. He is a great pursuer of the ball, with very good lateral movement. I would like to see him use his hands more. He has a tendency to run off blocks. But looking at him as a JR, he is pretty darn good.

This is great news for sure. As noted, good in State talent, big, quick, and loves the Illini, and a DT to boot. I am kind of thinking that this Illini staff kind of gets it with the recruiting stuff as of late. It certainly doesn't hurt on this one that he is a DT that will fill a immediate need when he gets here due to graduations...that it looks like we will put a couple of guys in the NFL this year.....and that our Defensive Coordinator is an NFL guy. If I am a defensive player for 2017 I could listen to that kind of music all day long. Good for the Illini and good for Mr. O'Malley

Seriously, having someone with the enthusiasm of O'Malley can make other in-state players look harder at Illinois. If he says "I-L-L-," others just might want to say "-I-N-I."

I believe there are some good things brewing for this week.

Sorry Unimaroon I have not watched any tape on the 2017 kids . That may be a while.

So will we have any players being asked out of NLOIs with the inevitable staff changeover? At least we only have 2 2017 commits that will possibly de-commit.

Might as well cancel this thread and start over.

Honestly, when you're landing a bunch of 2 and 3 star recruits, a lot of them just wanted to go to play in the B1G and that doesn't change with a coaching change. In fact, maybe now they'll get the opportunity to play for a B1G caliber coach.
