JCL has now moved into 3rd place of all time Big Ten freshman made 3 pointers

Kingsbury #1-117
De'Angelo Russell #2--95
JALEN COLEMAN LANDS #3-87

I'M completely wrong on Kingsbury, upon further review it shows only 44 three's as a frosh.

This is "Groce" negligence. For some reason he has it in his mind Austin can help us on D enough to make up for lack of experience. To his credit he did hit a crucial 2, but for the most part, I don't get it. Some coaches form an opinion and never let it go.
His net was very positive for us today - the late two he hit, the charge he took on Jok contributed to Jok getting the boot, and he gave some valuable minutes guarding Uthoff - and didn't suck doing it. IMHO he earned his keep today.

He tried to get some more rest for the guys. It appears Groce trusts Austin more than AJ right now.

Their bench out scored ours. Their problem was 5 points from gessel, clemmons, and Woodbury
I didn't see that Baer went off. They got a billion from Wagner in six minutes, though. Yowch.

My Iowa friend's told me before during this season that he's scared of March because Iowa is basically the Uthoff and Jok Show. What happens when they get ran off their legs? There have been parallels drawn between those two and Nunn/Hill. Difference there is that JCL has shown up to the party and Morgan has taken a monumental leap that I didn't think he was capable of.

And he was also able to eat up some fouls that we didn't want Nunn or Hill or JCL getting out there. He finished with 3 PFs while guarding Jok, for the most part. I'm not a huge AA fan and wish injuries wouldn't force us to play him as much as we do, but he contributed just fine today.

100% agree. He aggravated both of those guys, got in their shirts and pestered them while he was in. Their scoring really dropped off while he was guarding them.

Yeah, he wasn't looking for the pass on that inbounds play but that was about the only negative play he had today. He's not the most skilled guy on the floor but he played hard and contributed some solid minutes on defense. None of the starters could slow down either Uthoff or Jok.

Kingsbury's 117 made 3's were during his Soph. year--so that leaves only D'Angelo Russell ahead of JCL as Freshman

The improvement by Morgan, Finke, and DJW really has me trusting in the player development capabilities of Groce and staff again. Especially Morgan, and DJW. I didn't expect anything from Morgan this year (or his whole career), but we have a legitimate B1G center right now.

No, he's really only an offensive liability. He is a great defender.

I'm not sure I agree with the characterization of "great defender". Gives a lot of effort, works hard, but we disagree on this point. Can we settle on above average defender who made a great play drawing that charge?

JCL is incredible at getting open. He has a great knack for finding the right spot at the right time. He has bailed out other players on our team numerous time because of their bad passes. If he gets a good point guard (or even competent) watch out. Also, goodness gracious has Mav improved. He is blowing me away

JCL has a great sense of the game - on both sides of the court. Really going to be a special player for us.

Yeah, I get that, but AJ might be further along if he had gotten more time early on. JCL really was lost for the first 10 games much of the time - but his shooting kept him in the game and now he's really found a grove. I guess you have to win today to keep your job, but would have been nice if AJ or more DJW sooner. Sometimes I think those guys get the hook too soon. DJW I actually think could have guarded Uthoff some today - he has good length and feet.

Will be an all-time Illini, IMO. Just a gifted ball player and will be huge for a few more (hopefully?) years!!

Much as I love DJW's motor and potential he didn't look very comfortable when he was on the court today. I think for the most part the right guys were on the floor. Maybe a little too much Tate late in the game when we were playing not to lose but he had a couple of nice assists when we were playing to win.

We beat Iowa in the BTT for God's sake! I'm gonna enjoy it.

Agree except for the last sentence... since he's a walk-on, no keep to earn. i don't remember a walk-on ever making a contribution like this.
