Per SI, Valpo junior Alec Peters, who averaged 18.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, could follow Bryce Drew to Vandy. #yesplease

I know the Peters' family pretty well. He committed in September to Valpo (as opposed to waiting until the Spring for a high major offer) because of Coach Drew. There is a very good relationship there, obviously, after three years of playing. If I were a betting man, I'd put the money on the money line that he follows Drew over staying at Valpo.

I am not doubting what you are saying at all, but as we all know, there is no guarantee that there is a scholarship available for Peters at Vandy. Word was that Caris Levert wanted to follow Groce to Illinois, but Groce never reached out to him (not sure if we had a scholarship available).

You are absolutely right. Pretty early to speculate on potential transfers when the head coach is not even official yet. :)

The story I read was that Groce did not think it would be right to "steal" Levert from his former employer.

I understood it this way as well. He could've sat on the bench with Tracy, Thorne, and Black this year.

Michigan's Aubrey Dawkins will transfer and play for UCF, per release. Two years of eligibility remaining.

Was he not a highly rated enough recruit to get a scholarship offer from Stanford his freshman year? Or did he choose Michigan over his dad for other reasons?

"Aubrey Dawkins' high school career was good, not great. Having grown from 5 foot, 8 inches at the start of his sophomore year in high school to 6-foot-5 by his senior year, Aubrey's frame never fit his game, and his fame never matched his name.

During his senior year at Palo Alto High School, most wondered if Dawkins could be a legitimate Division I basketball player. He worked hard enough and played hard enough, but larger schools never took interest.

The major scholarships still didn't flow in, however. Aubrey Dawkins topped out with a few offers from Atlantic Ten programs. Dayton and Rhode Island were very interested.

Then Michigan -- a Big Ten program coming off an Elite Eight in 2014 and a Final Four in 2013 -- made contact.

Now, over one year after graduating from Palo Alto and spending a season at New Hampton (N.H.) Prep, Aubrey Dawkins is on campus at Michigan. He was the recipient of a scholarship offer that came in the 11th hour, just over two months ago in mid-April."

Or did they both see the writing on the wall. If I remember it correctly as the coach at Iowa State McDermott said he wasn't sure if his son was going to be able to play in the Big 12. Dad was fired soon after and both end up at Creighton. Worked out alright

My guess is that Dawkins didn't go to Stanford for academic reasons. Since he is now following his dad to UCF, I doubt that a reluctance to play for his dad was an issue.

I was pretty young at the time, but IIRC, his Dad didn't really have the grades coming out of HS. But somehow, he made it into Duke. I could be mistaken, but the adults I was listening to at the time always said that "he couldn't get accepted at Illinois, so he went to Duke". HAHA! :D

You sure you're not thinking of Phil Henderson? He was from Crete-Monee HS, picked Duke over Illinois. There were rumors he tried to transfer back to UI but wasn't accepted so he stayed at Duke.

Michael Orris is transferring from NIU and is immediately eligible. What conference will he end up in?

PPG RPG APG
2.7 1.4 3.0

Playing time went down from 26.2 to 21.7 min, bet he is thinking time goes down further next year...my guess would be he ends up at roughly same level, but looks for a team that is very weak at pg where he hopes to play a bigger role. What is the point in going down a level & how does he get an opportunity to go up?

Satchel Pierce is transferring from VTech. His stats aren't appealing at all, but I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. Sitting out a year with our S&C coach could make him a decent player and at the very least, a big backup in the post.

It's intriguing for sure. I agree, I wouldn't mind taking that chance. Kid had lots of interest out of high school. He'll be looking for more playing time wherever he goes. If he sits a year he'll start playing again with the 17 class. If Groce could somehow land him and Tilmon, wow. We can dream, right...

Nice size, but indeed his stats aren't that impressive. I think you have to believe he will be something special to get serious at this point with our scholly situation next year. If Thorne isn't granted a waiver, I think we need someone immediately to replace him, most likely another 5th yr. Past that it depends where the scholarship comes from, another big eligible in 2017 is certainly a need, but we are still scary thin/high risk at pg/big in 2016 as well, so if you can get an impact player in 2016 for either position I think you take that over a flyer/project with only 2 yrs of eligibility left.

The opportunity cost is a 5th yr + an additional freshman big in 2017...
