And I should include the St. Louis Eagles since they've got good things to say about Goodwin (2 links to videos) and Finke (and JT is listed on the roster).

Reading the article, it appears that Darius Garland is a hot 2018 recruit. Any chance Illinois will try to get in the recruiting since he is playing with Goodwin on the Eagles... or is he a blue-blood type guy.

I don't think Groce is scared off by "blue-blood type guys." He hasn't won any of the battles, but he isn't scared to recruit these guys.

Waiting on that Tilmon verbal our insiders promised like

That Tilmon being a silent verbal commit might have been the most widespread rumor of all time. It even hit the mainstream media...Wisch, DP, Werner, and others.
Personally, I think it was planted by staff to take away from the off court issues and also to swing more positive vibes Groce's way. Boy it spread fast and wide.I look for more of those type of "staff leaks".

My info wasn't a staff leak. I can stop sharing no prob.

I'm more than happy to hear "leaked info" but the silent verbals don't make sense to me. Especialy in this case with the UNC in-home.

Tilmon/his camp may be saying one thing, but having in-homes with Roy is a pretty large public statement.

If Roy Williams calls you up to have an in home... you have an in home. Also, how many times has Groce squeezed an in home in before a recruit committed to another school?

Exactly...you don't want to end up being scrutinized in his next book! :D

If you're committed then you're committed, right now Tilmon isn't regardless of what his camp/Groce's staff is saying.

There's a difference between a positive vibe from the basketball community regarding a player, even an uncommitted one, and a conspiratorial vibe to deflect the public from a series of bad incidents. Is that what we're saying here? That this was all planted and that there's no actual evidence of U of I leading the pack on the recruitment? And that sportswriters on the scene are being duped?

I'm not saying any conspiracy theory or anything, actually calling it more run of the mill false recruit info.

And that's not to say I don't appreciate the posters coming on here and sharing what they heard, I get all giddy too when I read it. It's just obvious that Tilmon/Groce's staff is saying one thing to some people but publically showing something else. Why I can't say, that's on the guys initiating that info, but there's probably a reason behind it.

If a recruit is uncommitted, it is only fair for coaches to recruit that player. If a recruit wants to end his recruitment, he can very much commit to a school and end his recruitment, end visits, etc. Tilmon has not done that. It is not that Roy forced his way into his front step and forced Tilmon to say that he had a great visit with UNC.

Also, as much as people are blaming Groce or writers or Tilmon, the silent verbal is just a product of message boards. And it is silly. UI is in good standing with Tilmon, but has not committed. When this happens we can all celebrate, but has not happened yet.

I wouldnt throw Werner and Piper in there. While they said Illinois was the favorites a long while back, their info (as usual) directly contradicted what Loyalty "Insiders" were saying. The arrests and opinion of his mother made the situation not a good one. The "insiders" coming out of the woodwork all came out after that. Wisch, while I think he got valid info, it was simply outdated. He's not really one to break stories and he likely hadn't realized the situation had changed.

And yeah, Groce has a vested interest in drumming up interest from potential recruits whether that interest is legit or not. It helps with his job security and can also help land other kids if they believe it.
