Sorry Mike I, but at 5-9, even if you win the last 2, you're no longer in charge of your own destiny, MS is now 8-6 and probably is.
Get 'Zo, give him to Dee and I, at least, see happy things ahead.

MeanStreets runs away with a 76-60 win over Mac Irvin. Alonzo Verge was the game changer.

Alonzo Verge knows he can't be stopped. Tells Evan Gilyard "give me the ball". He's right.

Alonzo Verge is the star of the show. Can't stop him when he's going downhill.

Nojel Eastern's two-handed flush puts MeanStreets up 53-41 with 7:48 left. Timeout Mac Irvin

Alonzo Verge splits two defenders & caps it off with a filthy up and under kiss off the glass. MeanStreets up 8.

#Illini commit Da'Monte Williams had just 4 pts. Got just 4 shots after huge game last night. Storm Murphy was 5-17. Jordan Poole was 2-13.

Thoughts on Mac Irvin: Christian Negron was good w/ 12 pts (5-5) & 7 boards. Justin Smith made some jumpers w/ a team-high 16 points.

Shoulder pop, shoulder surgery, now if someone gives us the cold shoulder we will hit the trifecta.

So...reading the injury tea leaves, Goodwin and Tilmon are both locks now, right?

I may be wrong, but from everything I've read and seen, Da'monte seems like a player who is inconsistent. He brings it one game and may not bring it another. I like players to be consistent

I really want Goodwin, who you know will bring it every day. This kid will be really good in college and I want him to do this at Illinois.

The players I really want to add on the Illini team are: Goodwin, Lewis, and Alonzo Verge. I haven't checked or followed up with the number of scholarships available or if this would be something that is even remotely at all possible to do with the scholarships situation, but wow...I think that team would be fun to watch.

Need a big or two.

Joel Goodson

ties will be resolved
Allen Iverson wasn't a choir boy, but he was a killer on the court. Am thinking if Verge keeps tearing it up, his previous transgressions won't look quite as bad and be chalked up to youth. Can he get admitted? Big question. Staff needs to figure that out, stat. 'Cause if he can get in and wants to come, we should take him. Should be an utterly electric college player. Kind of like Dee.

as long as his transgressions are not as bad as beating up women or anything like that, I think Illinois can afford to take a chance.

Theo John has untapped potential on offense. Can be great in the pick 'n roll. Know he's going to be a physical & aggressive defender.

Watching newly-offered #Illini target Xavier Tillman. Big, physical 2017 post at 6-foot-9. Interior finisher, runs the floor & rebounds.

He's been in a lot of trouble, but he's a damn talented player. I would take him, but I can understand why coaches are hesitant on him

Like what kind of trouble? Grades? Bad attitude with coaches? Trouble with the law?

This gets brought up every time Verge's name comes up. But I've never seen or heard any details about what his problems actually are. Sometimes these rumors spread and it turns into gospel.

That's my understanding, too. All I've heard from people is "teenager stuff." And I'll say this: If the changing of schools somehow makes him ineligible for the first year (a la Lovett), I think he's the type of talent that you still take with that understanding.

On the subject of DaMonte, it's hard to exactly pinpoint the inconsistencies without seeing him live. The box score suggests he may give inconsistent efforts, but it could be that he doesn't force anything or feeds the hot hand. Is there anyone who has seen him play who could elaborate on this?

I believe that this is the case with Verge. The staff's interest died down a bit due to his game on the court, not because of message board rumors. He may have had some trouble but he was in a large high school, if he did something atypical for a high school kid, legit info would have leaked. He's playing at a high level this summer and will have a commitable offer.

He has had trouble with the law and has not always chosen the right people to hang out with.

This from someone who covers the Illini.

Hopefully, he has grown up a bit.
