For certain players sure, but that can destroy some players too.

A good coach finds the motivating factor for their players and uses that, whether it's PT, fame, NBA, money, whatever.
It also can be just knowing you will get benched for something like that. I know very little about his HS squad and the kids he plays with, and the coach of his team. But if he takes a few trips up and down the court off right now, who on that team is close to him in talent that the coach can put in?

Sitting on the bench helps.

This reminds me when my oldest son played football in middle school. 3 of the best players decided to skip a practice before the championship game. They missed half of the practice. The coach sat them for the 1st half. Even though they only had 14 players. One player got hurt in the first half and the coach played with 10 on the field. To me if you are not playing to your ability you sit no matter your talent. Btw they lost the game by 7 and were down 20-0 at fhe half.

Question is, how do you coach a player like Damonte into keeping his motor up? I imagine he's had plenty of coaches in his ear telling him how fantastic he is when playing with focused intensity. Don't know if it's that simple...then again, I'm no coach

Makes me think of DJ Williams

Wasn't DJW top 25 @ one time and fell to RSCI #78. Let's hope that doesn't happen to DMWilliams.
I for one even questioned giving a ship to DJW.

I think thats accurate. I never questioned the ship. The ability is there and he might have the highest ceiling on the team. He just needs to put it all together. We will see if that happens.

If I could choose 1 player to make a big leap, I'd probably pick DJW. He's not point guard material but he could be a pretty darn good point forward. If his shot improves he could be an absolute beast.

My guess is that DMW rating doesn't change much.

My comment was more along the lines of questions about motor/consistency coming out of HS. And imo DJW answered those questions this past year. He seemed to play with great energy each time his # was called. The more PT he gets moving forward, the better.

DJW started his career as one of the top recruits in the country. DMWilliams had a very low ranking his freshman year and exploded last year if I remember correctly, so the comparison is not there as far as their rankings go.

Was it Scruggs or Wilkes that fancied us for our Engineering program way back when having unofficially visited? Last June maybe.

.@indy_heat big man Xavier Tillman finished w/ 18 pts & 14 rebs. Told me he was excited about #Illini offer last week & opportunity there.

Apparently, not top-19 level excitement... but excited about the offer and opportunity nevertheless. :D

His Mom doesn't like Groce. She was upset with the choice of scriptures he texted Xavier last week.

Well the last Xavier we recruited didn't end up at one of the top schools he posted..

As far as Illinois is concerned, the last few Xavier's we recruited had the same destiny as the last few Moore's.

Goodwin is so legit. What a beast. If we somehow got him, Terrence Lewis, and Theo John, we'd never lose for lack of hustle. That team would lead the B1G in floor burns.
