Jordan is a Team guy. Would love to see him join Illini and that's why I still believe he will. I'm sure he wants to go to the league but he also would love the chance to get to the big game. He is the ultimate teammate.

So if Goodwin goes to SLU, is there any chance Tilmon would flip to SLU? Only reason I am asking is that Frank Cusumano (St. Louis sports anchor) mentioned it the other night when talking about Travis Ford and Goodwin.
Frank decided to find out. Good news.

Frank Cusumano ‏@Frank_Cusumano 1h1 hour ago East St. Louis native Jeremiah Tilmon tells us he could not be more emphatic about his commitment to @IlliniMBB.

Verge sounds like an option we could grab late if all our other options don't work out.

Was really hoping to here some Kiir news/rumors after Louisville got Malik.

Terrence Lewis is solid CB for Iowa State. So that rumor that staff slow played him big time after he tried to commit during June UV might have some legs. It will be interesting to see who we end up with if they did indeed slow play Lewis. If he does end up at Iowa State on Tues he will not have taken any OV's.

Is this confirmed or is this the start of another IllinoisLoyalty urban legend?

I'm so confused. WTF happened with his recruitment?

Well Travis Ford has been very successful with some of his recruiting techniques. He can't coach his way out of a paper bag, but he does what it takes to get kids to sign on the dotted line.

Combes says no, it didn't happen. I believe him.

That said, Lewis had to know he was Plan B. Definitely did not help. OTOH, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Was the staff supposed to back off on Goodwin? No. ISU offers a much clearer path to early playing time.

hmmm - If I'm not mistaken, Tai Streets, founder of Meanstreets, is the head coach at Thornton.

just looked - that was last year. MaxPreps has Troy Jackson listed as coach this year.

looks like Tai figured it out. I think they're on The Cube a lot. Good for me!
(And I think Tai still coaches Thornton, he just pretends he doesn't coach Meanstreets anymore.)

Scott/Ballislife ‏@BallisLifeCHI Chicago's COLDEST HS player Alonzo Verge will be a Thornton Wildcat this fall according to @nikemeanstreets

Love how this board has become chock full of NBA scouts!

Right, the kid is 6'4" with a near 7' wing span iirc. He has a motor that doesn't stop, strength, and a want to win all of the time. He can dominate on both ends of the court with a game that is always expanding. This is the type of player every program in the country would wise to recruit.

Getting the elite 3 out of the Metro East would be phenomenal recruiting haul, and I'd think guarantee a top 6-8 class nationally with of course the additions of two of any of a four star guard, any one of the four star wings or pf's!:illinois::shield::chief: FWIW, I think J Good and JT rise a bit in the national rankings! I'd love to to Pickett sneak into the top 150 which is a ranking he is deserving of, and DMW to firmly establish himself as the top 110 player who is capable of top 50 play. Get someone like Scruggs, or Wilkes, and it's a top 5 class.

I know that Goodwin's fans see great things and can understand the disappointment if he has indeed flipped from what seemed like a likely commit. But I believe positional need is as important as anything.

Look at our wings TWO seasons from now: JCL, DJW, AJ, Kipper, Damonte, and Pickett. We're six-deep for two positions.

Damonte has great potential, Tilmon is potentially program-changing, and Pickett is not only potential, but also likely contributed to getting Tilmon.

In my opinion, Frazier and another top-150 big would make this an amazing class. For balance, I'd be more disappointed with a miss on these two (or Scruggs in place of Frazier) than the miss of a top-50 wing in Goodwin.

And of course, that 6th schollie is still open if Goodwin decides that Travis Ford's ability to "persuade" his influencers is not a good enough reason to play for a middling mid-major.

Evan Daniels ‏@EvanDaniels Five-star 2018 PG Ayo Dosunmu will visit Cincinnati on Tuesday, he tells Scout.

Ayo's Ohio Tour. Visited Xavier today and got an offer. (btw, that is Ayo that Verge is going up against in that short video I just uploaded. Action at the Nike ChiLeague Classic from a week ago. Meanstreets won the high school championship, MIF won the Pro-Am championship. It's a big deal in Chicago as you can tell from the crowd.)

If Goodwin's inner dog is truly as is described on this board by those who have seen him play, that type of mentality doesn't come around often. It's almost a level of insanity. And I mean that in a good way. The guys who truly refuse to lose and put the team on their back are not plentiful.

All of these adjectives may be warranted but personally I don't see a "team first" player with an "inner dog mentality" that "borders on insanity" who "refuses to lose" ending up a SLU. Talk about not believing that you play with the big boys. This would have been like Sergio saying home to go to Bradley. Absolutely no chance that was happening.

I don't mean to single you out either but IMO committing to SLU would contradict everything this board says about this kid.

I was posting in reply to someone who replied to my comment before this. I was wondering if we were recruiting anyone else with this sort of mentality, that Goodwin apparently has, because its not easy to find. To make it simple, I don't care about recruiting a wing to replace his skill, because certainly some of our wing recruits have higher potential and even better skill sets right now. I care about who can be our dog if Goodwin goes elsewhere.

To your point about going to SLU, those types of guys feel they can succeed anywhere which makes it matter less IMO.

OK, so it's Roy and Harv, but when they brag up my favorite player and one of our commits, I'm going to give them a shout-out. Also talk about JG, Ayo, Justin Smith and the Jacobs brothers -- Markese (we've offered) and Demarius.

Most Naturally Talented 2017 Prospect In Illinois
. Alonzo Verge 6'3 2017 PG Hillside (Proviso West) MeanStreets 17U
Yes, we are well-aware that Verge has had his share of off the court issues over the past couple of years. But we can also unequivocally say this--few if any players in Illinois can put points on the board as rapidly as Verge and in as electrifying fashion.
Blood And Guts Award
. Javon Pickett 6'5 2017 WF Belleville (East) Jets/Ramey United 17U
Unlike previous years there was no runaway winner for our Blood And Guts Award. In fact, there were at least three worthy candidates who fit the description of this award to a tee. However, at the end of the day Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye concluded that there isn't another player in Illinois who personifies the essence of blood and guts more than Pickett.

How does picking a smaller school cause him to lose all his winning traits? If anything, playing at SLU could strengthen those traits because he would truly have to carry them in order to have any success.

There is no way to know what Goodwin's perspective is. Of course we think picking Illinois over SLU is easy...because we are ILLINI FANS. Goodwin's decision is probably much tougher than we think it should be.

I'm not drinking the orange juice. I believe Illinois is still in the lead for Goodwin. The talk of SLU is intriguing to me. I have not wavered to the left in Billikin territory. Though there is something amiss in Goodwin's recruitment. Unlike everyone else, I'm witnessing a smokescreen. His recruitment just got more foggier, and I can see it getting more obscured, until the day he announces.

Like Tilmon, Illinois is the first major school to offer Goodwin. Loyalty can go a long way, and so can friendship ties. He's friends with Illinois' '17 recruits and Malcolm Hill. That's a bigger factor than most think.

If he ends up going to SLU or elsewhere, i'll still support him. I still believe Illinois is the leader in his recruitment, so I'm still staying positive. In the long run, Illinois is the better school than SLU IMO for Goodwin to grow and improve as a player.
