Considering TA's injuries and TJL's lack of experience I think Groce should get TJL as many minutes as possible against the cupcakes. That would give TJL some good experience and time to get used to running the offense. It would also allow TA to stay fresher for when schedule gets more difficult.

Given our tournament drought I'm guessing Groce will and should treat every game as a must win and play his lineups accordingly. Losses against bad teams early will not offset close games against good teams late.

Nebraska fan here who doesn't follow recruiting that closely. What can you guys yell me about Nana Akenten of Bolingbrook? Sounds like he has plus athleticism and can shoot the 3 and his recruiting was starting to pick up steam.

Thanks!

From Joe Henricksen, who is usually on the money. Has him ranked as 9th prospect in the state. http://suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2016/08/29/henricksen-sweet-16-class-2016/
And here's his article about his commit. http://suntimeshighschoolsports.com...continued-recruiting-success-illinois-design/

Idk this whole Wilkes recruitment is hard to get a grasp on. I know a lot are saying IU but IU is also starting to offer more '17 SF. I think they have offered a couple in the last week. They definitely don't have the scholarships but of course is Crean. Ucla looks like it would be oversigning as well for Wilkes. As of right now they have 0 scholarships available and have offer 3 or 4 more for '17.

Xavier has 1 open scholarship as of right now and that will be more and likely Scruggs unless something changes with him. And from what I see looks like UCLA only has one open right now.

I think UCLA and IU can count on roster spots opening up via the NBA route after this year.

Anunoby and Bryant certainly for IU, however there is always the chance they come back, both are "mocked" early on at early 2nd round.. Blackmon is a reach to even consider the NBA after this year.

Man.... Msu has been recruiting really well the last couple of seasons.
Jackson + Bowman (likely) is the beginning of a monster class for 2017

2016 they knocked it out of the park
247Sports Composite Ranking Natl Rank: 3 Big-Ten Rank: 1

Miles Bridges #12 ; Joshua Langford #20; Cassius Winston #33; Nick Ward # 41

But past that they hadn't been overly impressive for a few years;

But 2015 was just ok by MSU standards, not close to 2016;
247Sports Composite Ranking Natl Rank: 25 Big-Ten Rank: 3
Deyonta Davis#26; Matthew McQuaid #71; Kyle Ahrens #165

2014 was average B1G, below MSU expectations
247Sports Composite Ranking Natl Rank: 48 Big-Ten Rank: 6
Lourawls Nairn Jr. #103; Marvin Clark #217

2013 was below average, way below MSU expectations
247Sports Composite Ranking Natl Rank: 76 Big-Ten Rank: 10
Gavin Schilling #137; Alvin Ellis #290: Matt Van Dyk NR

2012 looks ok by the rankings , but large class raised the numbers
247Sports Composite Ranking Natl Rank: 12 Big-Ten Rank: 3 Av
Gary Harris #19; Matt Costello #94; Kenny Kaminski; Kenny Kaminski #115; Denzel Valentine #129; Bryn Forbes #NR

Pretty much everyone will oversign for a player of Wilkes' caliber. Certainly, Clappy and Alford will. And so would Groce, for that matter (obviously, not in that situation this year).

I don't think those classes are below average for MSU, 2016 just greatly exceeded expectations on the recruiting trail. They've just done a great job with the recruits they've been able to get. Now they are getting great recruits to go along with great coaching which sucks for other B1G schools.

Edit: I misread your post a bit. You're right, the classes haven't been that great on paper but I think they've done a great job finding pieces to addresses depth or any weaknesses. That's more important than looking at class rank to determine how good their recruiting has been.

Oh I agree it just seems for Wilkes being a supposedly IU lean that they would offer 2 SF's at this point.

I understand the concept of never stop recruiting but I'm not sold on Abu Kijab, especially when we have several talented wings on the team. Rather get a servicable big man and hold for class balance next year. Seems like we are off to a good start in 2018.

Regarding Nana Akenten, I don't remember his name ever being mentioned remotely as an Illini recruit. So he may be talented but he just never made the Illini depth chart.

Recruiting Kigab has nothing to do with going after Kiir or Epperson.

And coaches don't like leaving scholarships open. If they can land a player they think can help them win, they're going to take him.

Oregon is a top ten team and they want him.

I can remember back when we had a team full of guys like this and it worked out pretty well. I believe JG is not worried about having scollies for 18 those things tend to work themselves out. I think Abu could play the 2 3 and 4 so be hard to pass up on if he wants to come here

Depends where you look, I guess. Draft Express has Anunoby at 16 and Bryant at 19.

Just a clarification, although it does not divert from the main point in some good posts/discussion above. Denzel Valentine exceeded all expectations at MSU, but while some ranking sites may have had him lower than other, he was indeed the #88 ranked player by the RSCI composite.
