Great class so far... Now, let's put the icing on the cake and finish it off strong!

Yes, Kiir said he is going to visit.

Also, who is Abu Kigab?

He's a 6' 7" SF from Napa, CA.
4 star
Considered an Oregon lean, but is coming here for an official, so there's always hope
Also lists Calif, UCLA and Tennessee as of solid interest.

Thank you. My next question was if we really have any chance at him. At least he's coming for an official.

Decent chance. Some of the buzz has us running second to Oregon.

I'm sure Dana can count but they have 12 scholarship players already for next year and are expected to land Lindell Wigginton. Abu probably won't be a big priority now that they have White on board.

Thanks, I never take the time to look at it from the other school's perspective, that just gets so very complicated. Good to know that our odds might be better.

Danger Zone
Can anyone give a quick breakdown on Abu Kigab's game? Is he really 6'7"? Is he strictly a wing or can play in the post?

I'm sure this has already been discussed, but looking at the scholarship grid, IF we fill the remaining 2 slots and no one leaves, we have zero rides for 2018. (I know, not likely).

Does anyone know what the staff is thinking in terms of banking a scholie? I would assume they have no issue banking one given the class balance could leave us short on opportunities for next year. Any chance we'd bank 2? Do we find a big regardless to fill out the class?

Seems like Groce has done pretty well with 5th year bigs, but I'd assume that's a fallback option.

At this point, would the coaching staff prioritize going after Garland/Ramey over Ayo because they won't have to deal with Chicago recruiting politics?

I don't think this staff is going to shy away from the Chicago recruiting scene. 2017 is unique with all the downstate talent, but they're going to have to land Chicago kids to be successful long-term. Let's not forget that this staff has gotten kids from the city in the past:

- Nunn/Tate in 2013
- DJW in 2015

Those three all ran in the CPL/AAU circles that are known for politicking. I expect us to be in the Dosunmu recruiting for the long-haul.

Most coaches aren't into "banking" schollies for two reasons. First schollies virtually always open up. Second, you always try to get help sooner than later. A 2018 recruit wouldn't matriculate at IL for another two years. A coach needs to perform now, not in two seasons from now.

I think the staff will do everything they can to fill at least one more '17 scholarship. However, a sixth ride they'll only give for a big-time talent.

Looks like he's the long, athletic versatile type w/ a high motor who can play a few different positions at the next level. I don't know about his shooting, but strictly coming from some write-ups about him it sounds like he has upside defensively.

Sounds a lot like Justin Smith.

Huge difference in Smith and Kigab. JSmith is 247 composite #59 and climbing, Kigab is #142 and fading.
BTW, I have not given up on JSmith ending up in C/U. :)

Infinitesimal chance we'll bank 2. We may bank 1. Don't think we'll reach on the 6th. But if someone we want wants to pop, we'll take him.
