From FatGreg on 7/24:

I just read up a little on Jacob Epperson and I'm super intrigued. In his highlights, he seems to have really good reaction time and hand-eye coordination. I didn't know this before, but his dad, Ken Epperson, is from Louisville, KY and played at Toledo, where he's still the all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Ken Epperson moved to Australia after college to play pro ball. So the kid is half-American, comes from good basketball bloodlines, and is 6'11 and an okay athlete. Seems very skilled: really good passer and shooter, apparently. He'd fit into a frontcourt with Tilmon, Finke, and Black perfectly. After Culver and RaiQuan Gray (both extreme long shots, IMO), Epperson might be my top choice.

I don't think it'll happen, but it'd be interesting if Wilkes cancelled his IU visit. The timing of this seems like a "first come, first served" ultimatum...unless Nova for sure told JS he just wasn't in their plans. Even so, I thought JS would listen to Wisky a bit more especially after Howard Moore was in about a week and a half ago to see him.

Gonna suck having to root against him at IU...was really hoping it would work out differently.

No coach in the country would turn down Wilkes. If Clappy let's Smith commit then it either means he is ok with adding Smith and Wilkes, or he knows he isn't getting Wilkes.

Is there any coach in the country that would not be OK adding Smith and Wilkes? :D

Fun fact on Wilkes: He takes honors/AP classes and his Dad over a year ago sort of jokingly said that their first OV was going to be to Cornell. Of course it didn't happen, but just the thought tells you their mentality.

An IU fan posted that JSmith announcing later this evening. Starting to think that IU staff have already been informed.

Rabjohns confirmed this. Maybe he will do it at Trump/Clinton debate break.:D
16-0 to IU on 247 CB's. Shocker if it's anyplace but BTown.

Smith to Indiana means Wilkes not likely to Indiana. Assuming LA is too far, it's Xavier or us. I'll take it. Lotta assumptions here, well aware.

Good get for Clappy. Hope Smith doesn't slay us.

He won't slay us if Wilkes is guarding him and making him work at the other end of the floor. ;)

For that one year sure but after that JS could still be a headache.

Wilkes is not a one and done. Probably a 2 year guy. But Smith is a very good get and we will be lucky to be unscathed by him in his 4 years at Indiana.

On a side note, I like midwest guys staying near where they were raised. I like the conference strong. Wish Smith nothing but the best, 'cept against us, of course. Hate the Hosers and a wide swath of their annoying fanbase.

Uh yeah. Smith isn't a guy every coach will make room for like Wilkes. He's a good player but he's not on Wilkes' level. Many coaches slow play guys like Justin Smith. Groce will probably have to slow play guys like Justin Smith next year because we don't have much space.

Justin Smith just committed to IU (no surprise). Mr Wilkes, your table is ready.

That would be nice, but I still think Wilkes is a longshot.

Indiana got a very talented SF in Smith.

Smith is #105. Good, not great player. Kipper Nichols is his equal, IMO.

The question isn't whether Clappy will take Smith and Wilkes. Of course, the devout Creaner will. The real question is why did Clappy take Smith's commitment now, while Wilkes is still on the table?
