We will need to watch out for Nolan Gerling :) Any Mater Dei Alums out there?

I'm a Fairfield alum, but I know who he is. When he was a senior, Mater Dei had probably the tallest frontcourt in southern Illinois. That was a good team. Lampe was also a good player for them.

Illinois will have to contain 6-5 G/F David Franklin. Averaged 21 ppg. last year for them. Also averaged that same number too when he was at Lake Land. 6-5 G/F Michael Jackson is another name Illini fans will be hearing a lot. Averaged 15 ppg last season. Keep Justin Blanks in mind, 6-4 G/F as he scored 27 against Robert Morris-Springfield in their last game.

Their coach, Harry Statham...what a story. 51st season this year at the helm. The all-time wins leaders in college basketball history at the four-year level...wow.

I don't recall Illinois ever playing a non-D1 team outside of exhibition play. Any of the older folks know the last time this happened?

Well, you don't have to be too old, we played Chaminade in 2012. :)

Can't remember us ever scheduling such a game. But it's becoming fairly common recently, a lot of teams have realized how to game the RPI by playing a non-D1 team instead of a team ranked 300+ in the RPI. You get the cupcake game you want, ticket revenue with no RPI damage.

The Mountain West conference has been doing this for a few seasons and it's helped their teams look good in RPI. Hopefully the committees will start seeing through this particular loophole. Or maybe stop using RPI....

Ding, ding, ding. RPI is a joke.

Am I making this up or is it correct that this game won't show up as a win or loss in the official team record, and in the tournament our record will look different to so reflect?

Yeah, he's bad. We can't leave him alone. He won't stop till he gets enough.

This game should be a real thriller. I can feel it.

I'll see myself out now.

I seem to remember jokes about Mckendree Spring but maybe that was just me.

McKendree did also beat SIUE in an exhibition game this year.

Mattd618 is the man you may be looking for.

I do have a feeling that Mr. Gerling will be in for a shock once he gets matched up with Maverick.

McKendree did have a double digit lead against us for a majority of the first half when we played them a few years ago.

Yeah, I dont think Nolan will be a problem for us, but it is the first time I remember watching a kid from my high school play against Illinois. :D

Do we know what the spread is yet?

Spreads for college basketball arent posted until the day of the game. And there's won't be one for this game because it's against a Div 2 opponent.

McKendree beat SIU-E, so you could argue they are better than a handful of Div 1 teams.

However, McKendree was picked several spots below Lewis in their conference preseason poll. If they are worse than Lewis, this should be a game where Illinois drop 100 and wins by 40+.

Doesn't really relate to the game on Tuesday but am I the only one that still hasn't warmed up to the uniforms? I love the blue uni and the silver uni. However the white uni and orange uni I still just think look awkward on our guys. I'm sure winning would change that though lol

Stubhub has some $5 seats for Tuesday or if you want to splurge, they have some $19 tix in row 5 of the lower 120 section.

Groce previews McKendree

https://twitter.com/JWernerScout
Groce: Biggest thing hammering home is that we have to be more consistent. Have to start with better mindset, doing "dirty" things

Groce: Te'Jon Lucas is playing well. PT not a reflection of him not playing well. Other guys are playing well.

Groce: Other two guys have just played well. They've earned our trust understanding what to do. Te'Jon picking it up fast.

Groce: Te'Jon is talented. Once he gets it, he'll really get it. Playing catch up right now.

Groce: JCL no longer has bandage on hand. He's made most of what he was dealt. I'm not worried about him. Taking good shots.

SIU-E did beat Hawaii in its season opener, though. Impressive considering it was at Hawaii and the Rainbow Warriors are coming an impressive NCAA Tournament appearance.
