This is embarrassing. Let's at least get through 5 or 6 conference games first. There is no question this was a terrible game, but the question is...is this who we are or is this an outlier?
I'm thinking the only reason Whitman didn't get rid of Groce is because he didn't have a home run hire lined up like Lovie. I'm thinking/hoping/praying that Whitman has been doing some work in the background.
I share the reluctance over Miller...see Kruger and Self. However, I love the idea of Hoiberg re-establishing himself in college. It would be a splash hire, since no one really blames a college coach for not adjusting and succeeding in pros.

No other program will hire Miller away from IL unless he rights the ship here first with some solid seasons. If that happens we will be in better shape than we are now, so the risk is low IMO.
See Kruger and Self? See what? The high water mark for Illinois basketball over the last 20 years? I would be so unbelievably happy to have our program where Kruger/Self left it. PLEASE Whitman, deliver us a coach so desirable that the NBA/NCAA Blue Bloods want to poach him after a few very successful seasons.I share the reluctance over Miller...see Kruger and Self. That sounds better than just about every moment of Illinois basketball over the last decade to me. I really hope if there is a search this year, we embrace any coach talented enough to be compared to Kruger/Self. And avoid the "I am nervous he will leave us" discussion.
Every coach is going to do what is best for their career long term. There is no difference between Hoiberg and Miller in that regard. In fact, Hoiberg left his Alma mater for another gig. Miller has remained pretty loyal to Dayton while having several High Major programs come after him. I could care less if either left us after proving successful here, but I see little to no reason to think that more likely of Miller than Hoiberg. What I meant was that both were lured away, so I understand some reluctance over hiring someone who may use Illinois as a stepping stone.
However, I would not let that stand in the way of progress, since both of those hires improved our program.
I just have preference for Holberg, because I think he would be a bigger hire, and I like his style of play.
Lots of people here complaining about our offense and quick shots. Which is fine. Just don't ask for Hoiberg cause that's kinda what he's known for, playing fast, trying to score in transition without running set offense.
At least Hoiberg has offensive sets that have been proven they work in college basketball.
29-43 in conference record over a 5 year span without any coaching staff changes and people want to give that regime year 6?
What's it called when you do the same thing over and over expecting different results again?
