Highlight videos are small sample sizes.

Maybe I'm in the minority when I say this, but the one thing about highlight videos that I'm not a fan of, is taking out the natural sound and replacing it with music. For example, when Smith dunked over his defender, I want to hear the crowd react to that. I want to hear the excitement and the oohs and ahs of the crowd.

Other than that, good video.

The thing that impresses me most about Smith is his body control. That's the part of his game that reminds me of Deron. It's rare to find a kid his age with that kind of size and athleticism, but who also seems to play under control.

Good point. This will allow him to avoid charging fouls.

I remember last off-season there was a rumor that Tyler Hall was considering a transfer to a bigger school. I wonder if that's still something he's considering at this point? Montana State is 6-12 on the season (1-11 over their last 12), but Hall is averaging 24.1 ppg, 5.8 reb, 2.7 ast, and shooting 41.7% from 3 (3.8/9.1 per game). His talent is being wasted at a bad Big Sky program. He'd look awful good in orange and blue. Hall and JCL on the wings would rain torrents of brimstone on opposing defenses.

Um, yeah, I'll take another wing if it's one that averages 24/6 while hitting 4 three-pointers per game at a 42% clip. I'm all for roster balance, but I'm even more in favor of increasing the overall talent level.

Make Illinois the BW3 of college basketball! :thumb:

If we had nothing but wings on the roster, I'll bet we could fly!

Wings, Illinois, flying...theres gotta be a nickname or catchphrase there somewhere...

I truly hope we can land Smith, and I am very happy to see DJ back, IF things stay as they are and we add Smith, I personally would love to see Da Williams and Pickett both RS. Da just so he has a full year to get completely healthy, Pickett just for the simple fact everyone is comparing him to Hill at the same stage. well look at what we would have in Hill if he had another year. I also really would love to see us take a chance on a FR Big over a 5th year. I believe with JT as our post and with Kipper and DJ and Black it kind of moves Finke to the post as well. So takeing a flyer on a post isn't all that bad in my oppion if we can land smith this is how I see things next season
TJL 1
Trent 1-2
Smith/DA Will 2-1-3 I believe both are Big enough and athletic enough to guard and play the 3 if needed
JCL 2
AJ 2-3
Pickett 3-2maybe
DJW 3-4
Kipper 4-3
Black 4
Finke 5-4
JT 5

If you could get someone who'd develop just like Mav again, would you take him? IOW, if you knew your freshman big wasn't going to deliver until midway through his junior year, as is common with bigs, would you be willing to wait? We had time to wait when Mav was a frosh, but I am not so sure next year is the year we can afford to wait that long for his replacement to develop to the point Mav is at now.

We don't seem to be in on many more bigs this year. What choices do we have out there for next season?

I think Epperson is the only other possible big for the Illini in the 2017 class and I'm not sure what chance the Illini have to land him.

Taking a 5th year senior big can become somewhat of a self-propagating scenario, as you almost have to take a 5th year big every year, to fill the gap, until you are able to land a Top 50 impact big (which is hard to do) or develop a project big.

I think if you have a quality big already (such as Tilmon), you can take a chance on a project big, like Mav, as you know you he can develop behind Tilmon and you won't have to rely on him heavily.

If you don't have a quality big, then you need to find an immediate impact big, such as a 5th year transfer, to fill the gap, while you develop your project big or until you can land that impact freshman big.

I heard from a DePaul insider that Smith will have a hard time saying no to us, but is waiting to see how our situation plays out, even still, it looks good for us. He stated that he does like DePaul as they were one of his if not his first offer, but no matter what he will have a hard time telling us no.

How does a team with no fans have insiders?

Kid looks great. I know it's a highlight clip, but those highlights are electric. I would absolutely love to see this kid in O&B. When you see a prospect like that, who is ready to blow up, it doesn't matter what position he plays, you just get him.
