Watching ISU now, I think Illinois might be the 3rd best team in Illinois this year.

Really disappointing second half. How many minutes did we go without scoring?
That last 4 minutes Maryland gave us an opening and we just looked completely lost out there.

Groce makes no adjustment to Mav being doubled

Abrams playing the worst basketball of his life

Hill foul and turnover to end the half hurt a lot

JCL can't buy a basket in the second half

Kipper and TJL playing more like freshmen

Brantley goes off (so irritating, happens way too often against us this kid is not very good)

Leron picks up 4 fouls

No balls to our way

Stripes choke on their whistles

Horrible feeling in my stomach, hard to see us winning 9 more games this year. Whoof.

Even though the officiating sucked, the real reason we lost was because of that long stretch with 0 points. We just went cold and that's what did us in. Definitely the most frustrating loss so far since we easily could've won.

This isn't a season-ender, but now this makes the game @Michigan a must-win (unless we can somehow pull off the upset at Purdue, but I'm not counting on it).

That second half reeked of low BB IQ, following a really poor decision by Groce to end the first half. This wasn't about Maryland playing better defense, this was about poor coaching and poor shot selection.

Agreed. Kipper took some bad ones in the 1H, JCL took quite a few bad ones, and Malcolm really needs to throw away the pump-fake-for-a-foul move. Te'jon is an excellent passer, but we still don't have any consistent scoring from that position, which hurts.

With this loss there is no way they get to 9-9 in the conference. They will have at least three home losses and I don't see this team winning three on the road.

One of Hill's worst games of the season?

Tracy Abrams looked like he hadn't played basketball for years. Just embarrassing from a 6th year player.

Jcl 3-11 from 3, Hill 1-6 from 3. Tate played maybe 3 minutes, Thorne didn't play. How is this Groce's fault? He's playing the freshman like everyone wanted, Tate and Thorne basically didn't play. You guys want him out there making 3s?

It is Groce's fault because he doesn't teach them how to play defense effectively.

Shots didn't fall, difficult for any team to win when shots don't fall.

Defensively only gave up 62, much improved.

Difficult part is the next 2 games upcoming and the likelihood of dropping 3 in a row now.

Agreed. We couldn't hit a shot for 8 minutes. That is terrible and we settled for jumpers. Unfortunately this is the path towards bottom of the big ten. I really don't want to start over, but it hurts when other teams in the big ten are getting better and we appear to be producing below our talent level.

Illinois made 2 layups and 11 jumpers. UMD made 7 layups and 4 jumpers. So, don't be surprised if you see a very different 2nd half.

Illinois 4/6 on dunks/layups. Maryland 13/16. ILL 7/22 from 3, UMD 6/22.

It's a crazy, insane, anti-math thing Illinois is doing.

First tweet from halftime, second from postgame. It really is incredible, and numbers like these are why we see NUMEROUS 4-8 minute droughts throughout the season every freakin season regardless of personnel. I really hate this scheme.

The held Maryland to 62. I'd be much more inclined to pin this on offensive execution in the second half.

Does TJL not have the green light from 3? There were multiple possessions where I thought he had the best look from deep and passed off to the wing instead of shooting.

Also, why does 9-9 get mentioned on here so frequently? 9-9 is not a good season this year in the B1G. I was hoping hard we could find a way to get to 11-7, but this was a game we REALLY needed in order for that to happen.

Zero inside offense all game. Eventually we start missing shots and squander a lead that should have been bigger. Seen this movie before.

Groce won't do it but should seriously consider benching Tracy. AJ couldn't play any worse.

Zero inside O? Mav gave us 15 in the post, LB had a few inside buckets as well

Ive said this before we have seen what these seniors could do the last few years losing these sorta games in the exact same way . There is no way a coach whose job is on the line should come in to this season and keep betting the house on them .

We allegedly have depth well if guys dont show up sit them down no matter who it is and try and find someone who is gonna show up even if its game by game or half by half.

No one on this team should be guaranteed minutes because we haven't won enough for anyone to be given that sorta pass. At a certain point of losing everything else goes out the window and all that matters is winning .

I don't think even 9-9 would do it, barring a magical run in the BIG Tourney. We just don't have the reputation it would take to overcome a 50-50 conference record. Could be wrong, obviously, but I agree that I don't see even 9-9 at any rate.

UGH.
