For your halftime (and beyond) perusal:

Updated the spreadsheet, now has conference record and final place in standings for all seasons

1. Pretty clear Groce has underperformed with the players he has brought in
2. Someone email this to Whitman

I swear if someone comes in here and tries to stick up for this staff at this point they need to go get some help.

I'm really excited and interested in the thought process Whitman is going to have in this search process. I'm curious to see what he values in his candidates and what type (new up and comer, someone outside the box, consistent winner).

does groce even have any support anymore or has everyone moved on?

There is a contingent of folks still firm in the belief he deserves a year 6, although we'll see what they have to say after this showing.

I just want the best for our players, I can't watch more players come through the program and never play in the tournament. They deserve better.

There would be an argument if groces teams played above their talent level. But that hasn't happened

I don't know that there is any true "support" left out there for Groce the Coach.
I think there is support/hope for these kids (and Groce the Person) that they can find the will to work harder; play better; and somehow find the inner strength to turn this season around and make The Dance.
Barring that miracle, I think there will be almost complete unanimity in the call for the change that so many are seeking once the season is officially over.

Without getting too into the thick of the business side, there is a reasonable case to be made that the recruiting class and his expensive contract justify one more year.

A case, maybe, but not even close to a reasonable one

The incoming recruiting class is too good to lose myth needs to die.

We can say, rightfully so, that the lack of good point guard pay is the reason we have struggled offensively. But frankly, our defense, is horrible & more of the reason (than offense) why we have been so bad.

You're referring to our ole defense

We might lose a couple, but if this team continues to flounder under poor coaching, you're looking at a potential flash in the pan. We're better off restarting in that case. I'm as nervous as the rest of us that this program and that recruiting class will go away with a new hire.

I'm not nervous about losing the recruiting class at all. It's not a program changing class, the coaching hire is program changing and that's what we need.

Expensive contract? The buyout is like $1.5mm, that's nothing.

It's $1.6 million over two years, minus whatever Groce's subsequent employment pays him, employment which he is contractually obligated to use best efforts to obtain, so he's gotta do something. Ballpark, probably going to end up being around $500k for each of the next two years.

You're not going to fire a Power Five head coach for much less than that, ever. Not an issue.

I've seen Tilmon play 3 times. Good player but not worth keeping a terrible coach for.

This is the best counter argument I have heard for the recruiting class argument. The "It's not that good of a class" counter isn't strong. This is a very good class.

Sure, but outside of Tilmon, those are the caliber guys Groce should be landing routinely (and did). It's a good class, but Tilmon is the only one who is really a guy you blink twice at as being a major game changing recruit for us, and I am hard pressed to believe he is that on Day 1 at Illinois, or even Day 365.

I'd rather Frazier go to Florida and Tilmon go to SLU and us have a new coach than both of them coming here with Groce at the helm.

I agree, I can't do another "wait until next year; he finally has his PG; the incoming class will make the difference," etc.

The only thing the past few years have given our fanbase is an incredible ability to look for a silver lining.
