Agree on all of the above. All of those who want Groce gone need to re-read Frazier's tweet from about a month ago. From everything I've seen, he feels like Lucas who can also score the ball.

Do we really want to take a chance at starting all over trying to find a 2 PG combo like we're going to have next year?
And Frazier's followup quote was, "It's my new home and I'm not going anywhere."

Yes.

Larry Krystkowiak Is a guy who I wouldn't mind coming in and replacing Groce. Would take him over Martin any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

We need guards that can create so badly. I wish we could get Frazier, Smith and Lucas all 3 and then we could compete at a high level , We simply do not have guys that can create for themselves or teammates. I would love to keep Groce and get those players. I don't want to give up on Groce and start over right when the players are finally coming . I would make him change his staff

If he's got the right players coming, why does he need to change his staff?

Regarding the post game vids, is Dan replaying them by any chance?

Just kidding.

Kidding aside, the last question "What do you and Josh" talk about (or something to that extent .................. was a gutsy question to ask.

Joe Henricksen had a good segment on Sportstalk today discussing Chicago recruiting. In summary (no surprises):

- Self was "The Natural," instantly connecting with everybody. The best he's ever seen.

- Weber worked harder than anybody he's ever seen, but always sat in the back of the gym and never really connected with people.

- Groce and his staff seem to have pulled back after the big misses. They haven't consistently worked to develop the relationships. He didn't really say anything specific, but I get the sense that Henricksen doesn't see Groce figuring out Chicago.

Whitman really needs to understand what the next coach is getting into in terms of Chicago recruiting and what type of coach can crack the door open again. Of all the candidates mentioned thus far, I think Cuonzo is the only guy who's actually landed a top Chicago player. Can he do it consistently? I'd be much more bullish on him if he's the guy that could recruit Chicago well.

We sure do. His conference record is 32-49 (.395). Groce absolutely cannot be retained with this type of job performance. He was given a healthy, senior laden roster and he has done nothing with it. Losing all of these seniors in favor of true freshman cannot help our record with him at the helm; it can only hurt.

People are vastly over-estimating the quality of this year's recruiting class.

Problem is You can't count on just Chicago and even if Martin can recruit it he can't coach it. So what's the point of getting a recruiter and not winning. You want Chicago win without Chicago. Seems a lot of Chicago has the higher than anyone mentality when it comes to recruiting. Sure Chicago would be great but I would never want to count on it nor would I want to choose a coach who may be able to get it going. If he doesn't he's not good enough to succeed. In 8 years he has made NCAA only twice.

My biggest fear is that our AD does nothing, and gives Groce another year. I honestly don't think I could take another year. I just want a relevant/competing team.

I think you have a very good point guard in Frazier , if you keep Groce possibly Smith. Tillman is the best big we have had in a long time. They will significantly improve our team

People counting Smith as not just ours, but dependent on whether Groce is the coach is hilarious. What are you people talking about?

That's my biggest worry considering Finke/ Black would have to be our 5 unless get a transfer.

I think he could use a veteran Xs and Os guy. The talent level is the biggest problem I think. We are 14th in the league at the moment at point guard and no one can beat their man to the hoop except maybe Lucas.

I hope I'm wrong but do you think he will wait around to see who our coach is going to be to make a decision?

Think they are going off his comments about relationship with coach as being one of the aspects he is considering

Sounds like he has a great relationship with Collins, who will definitely still be at northwestern next season...:(:tsk:

I have a feeling all of these kids are going to be more excited about playing for the new basketball coach than they are about playing for Groce. Kind of like how the football kids were more excited about playing for Lovie than Cubit. I really hope Mark Smith waits to see who the new coach is before making a decision!

Yea, I like Krystowiak. He emphasizes fundamentals and defense. He can also recruit bigs. I would prefer him over Musselman, who hasn't proven anything in my eyes.

But, they will be very young. If Groce can't turn these seniors into a consistent group, what makes you think he would be able to corral the freshman? The freshman are arguably going to have more struggles to adjusting to the college game than our current seniors do. I would expect a lot of struggles next year if Groce is retained. That's my opinion, but I think it's a likely scenario.
