Don't have a clue as to why Dee left, still hoping there's a chance he could be hired as !!!'t coach/recruiter/coach in waiting.

Is there an article sourcing that? Surprising to see that based on a 1 year college HC resume, must've interviewed well.

No article, heard it from my old boss who is a big Vandy donor and is in their FB HOF. You can look him up if you want under intitials of EJC. He also said Will Wade was a finalist.

That post isn't very far off.. By very far off I mean it's not really off at all unless something changes dramatically.

Can't name names because the way the internet is these days (look at the Demetrius Jackson was going to transfer to Illinois thing lol) but that post is something I was told word for word by an insider today.

A poster on another site says it's already a done deal.

Considering I also post on that site - I can tell you that he is not to be trusted. Seems like more often than not he is wrong with his inside information.

He's an illini optimist, but he's as clueless as the rest of us.

As a regular on another insider website.. That actually has some decent inside information.. I heard this almost word from word today by a person I trust very much (not the main board insider). Just a guy that knows people that knows people.

If true, Monty Williams is literally the only name being thrown around on the message boards that makes any sense in terms of logistics and timeline. I guess maybe Mike Brown, but he's on the Warriors staff and they're contending for an NBA championship. It could also be someone who stepped out of coaching for a year or two to work as an analyst (can't think of any names off the top of my head). Can anyone think of analysts and/or front office personnel that might be in play?

That scenario isn't going to happen unless it's Monty Williams/Other currently unemployed, or an assistant somewhere. No sitting college coach is leaving their gig early enough for us to be able to announce during the Big Ten tournament. I find that theory pretty hard to believe because I don't see us leaving the college ranks for this hire, IMO. Besides, it'll be one or two games, what's the point of having walker coach the BTT? Not buying this one, although I appreciate people sharing posts from "insiders" for the kicks :)

There were some Steve Lavin advocates earlier in this thread, he would fit the bill (no thanks, personally)

Good article from the Champaign Room analyzing Cuonzo as a candidate. One thing that hasn't been talked about: If Cuonzo left for Illinois, would Charlie Moore follow him? What if Frazier decides to decommit? Bring in Charlie Moore and that fixes that problem. To me, outside of Tony Bennett/Scott Drew/Frank Martin, I think Cuonzo is the best candidate for stability, retaining much of our recruiting class, bringing Charlie Moore back to Illinois, and making recruiting in-roads in ESL/Central IL/Chicago area. The people riding Keatts' coattails are clearly not considering the long-term ramifications of such a move. Keatts will cause us to wait for another 3 years. Can we as fans stand for 6-7 years without an NCAA tournament appearance?

I believe Cuonzo will be the first person we've recruited as a player and a coach.

We were considered the early leader for him as a player, but the NCAA investigation and subsequent probation were big factors in the recruitment.
