MSU lost Eron Harris for the year which is a big blow for them. Nebraska may actually be the more difficult game considering that development.

Shame on me for not knowing that, but I also never, ever count an Izzo team out in February or March. They'll be up for a battle with or without Harris.

Yes, they are tough at home, beat Purdue and should have beaten Wisconsin. Plus you know Morrow and Watson will be highly motivated to go against the program that "snubbed" them.

They are 3-4 at home in B1G play. Not exactly world beaters at home. They have arguably been better (same record away as home in B1G) on the road in the B1G. Sure the Illini are capable of losing by 15 or so on a given night, but I believe the defense has turned a corner (notice I said 'a' corner, not 'the' corner!) and we will have a chance in Lincoln. Nebraska playing at MSU tomorrow night doesn't hurt either since they have less time to prepare for the Illini.:chief:

What more motivation does one need than beating these guys moves us head of them in the standings. Let's keep it simple. Play the game. Win the game. Move up.

ILLINI IN NE

Omaha,Ne.
We need to stop Webster from getting in the lane and either scoring or kicking out to Watson or McVeigh for a 3. Their new big Tishimanga is playing well and he is huge but foul prone. We've all seen what Morrow can do.

I got six tickets at midcourt in the 3rd row and can't wait to see the Illini up close.

I think Webster and Watson's athleticism will play a big role in this game. We (Lucas) exposed the lack of athleticism of Bohannon and McIntosh the last two games. Lucas will likely be a defensive focus for Nebraska. We have never won at Pinnacle Bank Arena, hope to correct that.

Every time neb has lost a game after a win they have lost again. Moral of the story is root for MSU tomorrow.

A newly-revitalized Illinois defense! :D

Seriously, I loved the effort from Tuesday. Probably the best team defense this season yet.

You can trust the small sample size. I'm going to trust the whole body of work and speculate that it doesn't last.

I think the momentum carries over and we continue to roll. All of the sudden, this team looks long, athletic, and hungry. I like that. I miss that.

I'm hoping for this 100% because anything less than a competive loss is essentially the final (final, final) nail in the coffin.

Another win and all the buzz is back and that MSU game at home will be rockin'.

Any kind of loss is the final nail in the coffin.

Yeah, tough defense makes us much better!!!

As far as the Sunday's game goes:

:( - Nebraska has a couple of wins against top 25 teams.
:( - Nebraska has the home court advantage.
- According to our records we are very evenly matched.
:) - Illinois is trending up.
:) - Illinois may have just discovered how to play tough defense.

Might be a close intense game. ILL

This mentality is understandable, but IMHO a discussion is for after the season.

The "final nail in the coffin" being referenced here is for the tournament, not Groce. As such, I dont think we would need to wait for that discussion

It gets really awkward when there are multiple coffins laying around and you have to distinguish between them, doesn't it? :D

Again, NEB has not won a game all season after a loss trailing a win. In other words, every losing streak has been at least two games. Their current losing streak is 1 game. Will the trend continue? Illini win this and we have to feel that winning out is a real possibility. Taking a 3 game winning streak into senior night vs. MSU where we are favored and then knowing they just need to close out rutgers to keep the dream alive. One game at a time. NEB win is the key I'd say.

I hope we never have to endure another graveyard stretch of Illinois basketball like this for as long as I live.

Was on campus during that time and the only thing you could root for was for Rick Schmitt or Otho Tucker to have good games (at least until Levi came to town)...

I started law school just in time for the 1978-79 season. I was no fan of college basketball at all before that year. I picked a very good year to start!

The earliest Illini I can specifically remember watching on TV was Richard Keene (I must have been 6 or 7). At the time, I thought to myself that he had a different-looking jump shot.

Point being, this is the worst stretch of Illinois basketball I've been subject to. Worse yet, it's not like I can fall back to my alma mater (Drake) and root for a better team. =P
