Groce should be fired tomorrow, name an interim for the NIT and start the search for a new head coach immediately.

Obviously

What is the Over/Under for how many times Groce will use the word "Obviously"

He wears that word out .... time for a change John

What a pathetic era. We've got some talent coming in. Let's hope for a fresh start with a great hire, keep committed guys, land Mark Smith, and build up some momentum going into next year.
Correction: Had some talented players coming in.

After season 1 of John Groce at Illinois - every time that we needed to play inspired basketball - we did not.

I cannot imagine that Whitman can be inspired by this staff any longer. Seems like an easy call, but it is in his court now.

Beilein just stated he "Did less coaching with all going on last 24 hrs"....WTF we just lost to a team ranked 1 spot higher seeded with a coach "COACHING" less....Damn if that ain't all we need to know!!

Only another 20 point loss, especially in a game that mattered. For all the Groce lovers, please tell me why you want to keep him. I can't imagine the reasoning behind it.

I am looking forward to the new coaching search. Keatts Hype Train.

I think the only argument someone can make for keeping him is not that he deserves to stay, but that JW really wants to get the next hire right. May not want to pull the trigger until he's confident he has a good option(s) to go to.

And so the John Groce era goes out with a suitable whimper.

My guess is that Whitman waits until after we finish the NIT.

I am not sure I would classify this as a "whimper". It was really more of a pretty loud flop.

I don't really understand the logic of the people that want to fire him immediately and then still play in the NIT... Do you honestly see that going well?

Wow, that game made a statement to Illini fans and the AD. I suspect everyone is ready to start over next season.

Fitting end...in the worst possible way. There is no need to wait for a "sure thing" coach to come along, we need "anything" at this point.

I was Listening to it at work, pathetic. One of my co-workers is a Iowa Hawkeye, he was even saddened by the outcome. He even told me he was sorry for me.

I don't see this as "out of the norm".

Are you advocating...

1) Fire him but let him coach out the NIT?
2) Retain him until after the NIT?
3) Reject the NIT bid?

No I don't but its a better option than denying Tracy and Malcolm the chance to play more games. After today, do you think Tracy wants to be done? I bet he wants to play more games. To be honest, he really should get the chance. I hate the NIT, but the players have earned the right to continue their careers and season. That's why they will accept even if they fire Groce.

That Steam Song Again

A plane carrying the Michigan ballers to the Big Ten Tournament slid off a runway. But it’s the Illini basketball program that’s been driven straight into a ditch. The Michigan jet had to abort a takeoff to this game. But the Illini program has aborted takeoff for years in any quest to claim the position it should have in the college basketball hierarchy. Michigan arrived the in the middle of the morning for the game. The Illini barely showed up for the game at all. Michigan wore practice jerseys to face the Illini. The Illini wore their regular uniforms, but really stood naked before the world in exposing what they have become. The Not-Ready-For-Prime-Time-Players showed again that when prime time hits they wilt under the bright lights and crave the dark like certain mushrooms. Some will praise the comeback the Illini attempted. Remind me, how big is the trophy for that? The game was played in Washington, DC, the symbolic heart of the nation. The symbolic heart of Illini Nation, Champaign, is breaking once again. Michigan goes on to live another day. The Illini will soon scatter to the four-winds and spend yet another off-season in mediocre basketball purgatory. But Illini Nation, do not despair. It’s like pulling out a bad tooth. It hurts like hell, but it has to go. The Illini have decay that has to go. Let us hope that Doctor Whitman performs the necessary surgery on this decay and returns the Illini program to real health. Guys in Orange, this is not to dump on you. You are what you are. You don’t have to apologize for that. If that is all you got, then that is all you got. You are what you are. Thanks for your effort. Seniors, go out there and have a great life. Give your next endeavors your best. Illini Nation will remain here hoping, waiting, wondering when if ever the greatest basketball State on the planet will have a team that truly represents this. For now, yet another year with the Orange walking off the court to the sounds of that STEAM song again.
