I just checked my emails and saw that I got one from the State Farm Center letting me know that Garth Brooks tickets go on sale Friday. I may go to that because it would be nice to see someone in that building that knows what they're doing. ;)

I was Listening to it at work, pathetic. One of my co-workers is a Iowa Hawkeye, he was even saddened by the outcome. He even told me he was sorry for me.

My cousin went to Rutgers, he literally called me and said "I'm so sorry for your season" after they lost..

I don't really understand the logic of the people that want to fire him immediately and then still play in the NIT... Do you honestly see that going well?
Can you name any NIT past champion? No, nobody can - nobody cares. Fire him tomorrow and let the country know there is a head coaching vacancy at Illinois. Whitman better get on this early - the fanbase has had enough.

The DIAA and D2 coaches will be frothing at the mouth.

Proud of the way Tracy battled. Embarrassed and disappointed for everyone else.

Show me change, Josh.

We're right back where we started a couple weeks ago.

The legacy of Groce is digging a huge hole (in the season and games), mounting a fake rally, and ultimately falling short.

Get tickets. Good show. That was my positive post for this thread.

I don't see this as "out of the norm".

Are you advocating...

1) Fire him but let him coach out the NIT?
2) Retain him until after the NIT?
3) Reject the NIT bid?

No I don't but its a better option than denying Tracy and Malcolm the chance to play more games. After today, do you think Tracy wants to be done? I bet he wants to play more games. To be honest, he really should get the chance. I hate the NIT, but the players have earned the right to continue their careers and season. That's why they will accept even if they fire Groce.
Response to post #1: Option #3.

Response to bolded: No, but I think it was pretty clear that everyone else does. Teams don't lose by 20 due solely to bad coaching. The players failed to show up today. Is part of that on Groce? Definitely, but that doesn't completely absolve the players. Rewarding them with a postseason berth in a season in which they played terrible enough for their coach to get fired seems a little backwards.

Long time lurker, never felt the need to post but I cannot refrain in this situation. The timeout that Groce called with somewhere in the neighborhood of 6:30 to go when we were on a run and had Michigan somewhat flustered I think speaks to the ineptitude this man has as a coach. That is a timeout an opposing coach typically would take when he sees his team faltering somewhat, not the coach that is going on the run. His use of timeouts has perturbed to no end for 5 years. There is no excuse for the mess this program is in. It is time for this man to go. He is a great guy and a great player's coach, but he is nowhere near the x's o's big ten level coach this program deserves. I will always support this program but we are in dire need of a change. Obviously this has been stated on this website many times. This might not be in the right thread and this will probably be my only post, but Illinois basketball is not where it needs to be. Still for the future:Go Illini!

If Whitman fires groce within the next week I think he already has someone ready to take the reigns over.

This should at least remove any doubt.

I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised that after the nice run, capped with the emotional win v. MSU we just totally flopped. Groce coaching for his job. 6 seniors. And this?

You could put Beilein in charge of a team of 8th graders or a bunch of geezers at a Y pickup game and he'd abuse a Groce coached team every time, especially Groce's defense. Boyslaughter.

And so we start all over.

What is the Over/Under for how many times Groce will use the word "Obviously"

He wears that word out .... time for a change John

Time for a change Josh

Well obviously Groce can't coach, very disappointing five years

I live in DC. This tourney was on my radar - very excited. Had set up trips for my out of town fellow alums. So excited. As time got closer, they all cancelled. Today I had the day off and decided to play tennis. How pathetic. Finally my Illini come to D.C. , tix were essentially free and I stay home. We need to say bye to Groce ASAP. Embarrassing!
