Good news is I think we'll be the most attractive position the coaching carousal unless a blue blood scandal develops. We should be able to pick above the rest.

Disappointed to hear that Monty turned down the offer. Seems clear that he was the number one choice given the weeks of rumors, Colangelo connection, apparent booster buy-in (judging from rumored salary allowance), and immediate news that he turned us down.

I have a gut feeling that it will be Keatts, but I'll bet 1,000 internet points it ends up being one of these names:

Kevin Keatts
Archie Miller
Cuonzo Martin

I said this in the other thread, but if Whitman was trying to make him the highest paid coach in college, that's huge. Means he has a blank check to work with.

For roundball junkies this is supposed to be the best time of the year. This year so far it has completely (stunk). That is, until now. Instead of seeing the Illini fail to advance in a wide-open tournament that was sitting there for the taking, we move passed frustration and regret to genuine excitement for the future. The Christmas gift box sits in front of us unopened. Will we open it and smile tensely and mutter Thank You? Or will we be shocked out of our minds to find the present of our dreams? Santa, we promise we'll be good if you'll just give us...

the flight trackers are on top of it

ps: not excited about keatts if that's the guy

You'd think they would learn to be more covert about these things - say fly through another city and under cover of darkness, switch flights. ;)

Well, it seems like our parents are rich...:thumb:

Ten per year seems like a ridiculous clip to me. I understand they recruit, but not even Kentucky brings in ten players every year.

Hargrave has both varsity and post-graduate basketball teams so that gives roughly double the amount of spots as most high schools.

Either of the first two would be exciting...not so much with Martin.

Plane owned by Asphalt Materials, Inc.

CEO Michael Kelly

Anybody know if this guy is a major donor?

Not that unusual for companies to rent their private plans when not in use. Asphalt Materials owns Emulsicoat, which is in Urbana.

Oof, not excited about the realistic candidates in the event that both Monty and Keatts are crossed off.

Archie Miller is the next coach, would have went to Indy if they had fired TC, but he is ours now!

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Miller, on top of being an excellent hire, would mean he wouldn't be coaching at IU. Win-win.

Hoosiers are going to end up with a great coach. That's still a great job. JW is going to have to step up and put the rest of the conference on notice, like he did with Lovie, that UI is serious about its two flagships. The thought of having a legit coach like Archie or Gregg is so exciting.

Trying to decide which train to get on...Keatts or Miller?

The idea that Keatts is a John Groce hire is just wrong. John Groce took a mediocre Ohio program and kept it mediocre capping it off with a "fluke" hot run to the sweet 16. Keatts took a nothing program and turned it into a great one. Not okay...great. Keatts record is sterling. And barring a Lovie-esque hire (which was Monty), we would be lucky to get someone the caliber and buzz of Keatts.

In fact, we should start getting used to the idea...
