If that Monty tweet is spot on, I think it's a credit to Whitman that he got jilted at the alter by his reach candidate immediately. Go in with your biggest offer on day one and get the pipe dream stuff out of the way early. With MT it would have been weeks of intrigue and drama followed by a very public rebuke/wedgie and then back to square one looking weaker and more desperate.

Archie Miller, Tony Bennett, Keatts- I'm ok with any of those. Didn't Keatts already tell UNCW that he wasn't coming back next year?

the flight trackers are on top of it

ps: not excited about keatts if that's the guy

I understand that opinion as he is relatively unproven, but I'd be thrilled. I love his style of play and love his background. I think he has very high potential.

While I'm disappointed on the Monty news, awesome to hear they were willing to pay top dollar. If the guy isn't willing to go to the NCAA for big money, not much you can do.

Personally, I'm very happy with Keatts if its him but it would be hard to tell if he was #2 guy, or #5 and 1-4 already turned the job down.

Maybe that's taking a page out of the post-Dononvan Florida hire?

Yeah, the suggestion that Whitman was willing to pay Monty Williams a ton is a great sign. He will get someone who has a chance to be great if that is the case.

Go Illini

Keatts is the hot mid-major coach du jour, having led UNC-Wilmington now to consecutive 25-plus win seasons and consecutive NCAA tournaments after spending three seasons as an assistant at Louisville under Rick Pitino. It’s Keatts’ time as the coach at Hargrave Military Academy, though, that is most intriguing. His 10 seasons as head coach turned Hargrave into a national powerhouse and produced 103 Division I players.

Is this even possible? Ten D-I players every year for ten years? Did he recruit a new crop of seniors every year?

Oh yea, it's very possible. But those schools recruit like college teams. It's not like he's developing them at some ridiculous clip.

Ten per year seems like a ridiculous clip to me. I understand they recruit, but not even Kentucky brings in ten players every year.

No, it means he had booster consensus around Monty Williams.

Very possible this whole process just exploded to smithereens in 5 minutes.

Guessing Woj got this directly from Monty weeks ago and agreed not to leak it until now. Whitman would have been working Monty weeks if not months ago to gauge interest. He's had plenty of time to figure out the Monty situation prior to a firing.

That stat may have meant that there were 10 eventual D1 players on his team every year, not 10 D1 seniors.

I think 13 or so of those guys were eventual NBA players.

pretty sure hargrave is a community college 2-year type program, so it's possible he was inheriting 10 new guys every year
