The Supreme Court would surely overturn Larry Bird.

So we know where CM can take Ill but have no idea what Keatts can do at a high major and you would rather have Keatts?
I understand people preferring Keatts but you have to recognize there is more risk involved there. Sure he may be the second coming and future HOF coach, but he could also flame out when he is tested at a much higher level.
Miller imo is the only legitimate candidate that I think is sure fire. Even that I could understand being argued against. At the very least you would think Martin would be able to elevate the program a step or two for the next coach.
If only we had an example of where we paid too much attention to these things.
Can anybody think of one?
Anyone?
Don't agree about Keatts, but Wade is interesting.

Will Wade. If we strike out with Marshall and Miller, Wade looks better than Cuonzo or Keatts.
My point was Cuonzo is a safe hire that in the long run doesn't elevate the program or get us back to the desired success we are wanting. That's just my opinion. So yeah. I'd rather go upside on Keatts.
Will Wade hasn't shown me enough. Two decent years at Chattanooga, then he's kept a solid VCU program about where it was for two seasons. Am I missing something there?
What matters more, winning the Big Ten regular season or going to the Final Four?
The group think about not caring if someone can win outside their conference is interesting. What matters more, winning the Big Ten regular season or going to the Final Four? Beating the teams you're not supposed to beat matters. If you want to set your criteria at whoever wins in their conference that's definitely your prerogative, but in my opinion there's more to it than that.

I don't think you know what "groupthink" means.
Anyone else think that Monty Williams can still happen? Just a bluff?
It's not what matters more, it's what is more predictive of the future.
The intensively scouted grind, road atmospheres, and larger sample size of conference play is the biggest test.
It doesn't mean you ignore the other stuff by any means. Claiming those big scalps matters. But you view it in the broader context.
You may very well be right, but the top name in the local media is...Tom Crean.
This is probably accurate. Dee was having some health issues (hip replacement), but his departure was sudden and mysterious. Presumably something happened behind the scenes. Nothing has leaked about the situation, which makes sense when you consider that Dee is an iconic figure in Champaign and still a reference point for hoop heads everywhere. It's in everyone's best interest to keep whatever led to his dismissal/departure under wraps. Hope he lands on his feet. Love that guy.
I'm not going to be mad if Keatts is the guy, but it's a risky hire to me.
I picked UNCW to make the Sweet16 to ensure they lose in the first round and they can keep the process moving, you're welcome Josh.

Any of the former players "tossing their hat in the ring" worth while as assistants on the next coaches staff?
I posted a tongue in cheek post earlier about former players. Eddie Johnson is really interested in the job. there was a nice article about him a while back. I believe he wanted it before Groce was hired.
Young guy, good recruiter, winning in two places, playing an intriguing style.
We could do worse. I'd put him around that Cuonzo level. Keatts and Musselman would be higher on my list though.
Groce has had a lot of upside in the past as well. That's the problem with high risk high reward type candidates. Someone in the carousel thread talked about it in terms of probability. It is a relative certainty that Cuonzo will improve the program. It may not be to the level most want (multiple E8 some F4 etc) but he is highly likely to be able to be top 6 in the B1G and a staple in the NCAA tourney.
Keatts makes me more nervous about the future of the program than any of the names talked about the most. He may be amazing but you just don't know yet. If he was in his 5th year with the trajectory he is one it would be much better. Or if he was in a better conference... I don't think you can call the CAA mid-major.
