IF this happens WHILE WE HAVE $25 MILLION TO SPEND?

The money. Doesn't. Matter.

Keatts is, has always been, and will always be a home run.

I don't know why I'm letting myself get so bothered by this board doing what they always do and treating not one but SEVERAL laughable pipe dreams as guarantees that we must merely choose between, but after the MT "embarrassing search" nonsense, how else am I supposed to react?

@finebaum - SOURCE: Cuonzo Martin turned down an $18 million dollar contract from Illinois

Either we just got clowned or Finebaum's source wants to enrage Illini fans.

Here's my issue with Bennett. He's a guy who does more with less. He's not the guy who's going to get you back to back to back top 5 recruiting classes. His teams are going to be tough, play defense and aren't going to beat themselves, but they aren't going to beat you just by rolling the ball out on the floor. Keep in mind, Izzo knocked Bennett's best teams out of the tournament twice, as a lower seed.

How does Bennett's style differ from Tom Izzo's?

This forum is a thing of beauty sometimes. With all the inside informants and detailed analysis here, I don't even know why we need JW. We can just have the board hire the coach...

It's amazing how the sentiment in some cases has gone from how Groce has to go and how anyone can do better, to some people wringing their hands on whether Tony Bennett is a good hire (if we can get him). I would be ECSTATIC with Gregg Marshall, but what makes everyone think he's such a great fit?

He dominated a TERRIBLE conference, and had a good run to the final four. He isn't recruiting top talent, and his classes are ranked below what Bennett has pulled in. Furthermore, Bennett plays in the ACC! The class of competition is night and day.

We would be lucky with either one, and a few of the other names being thrown around. In the off chance we can even get Tony Bennett, we should all be celebrating we were able to draw a coach of that caliber.

It's most likely coming from Martin's people or Mizzou's people

How can he turned down an offer when Whitman hasn't met with him yet?

Will Leitch on Finebaum:

SEC folk must be closer to accepting Mizzou as one of their own if they're happily parroting their bull!!!! now.

No way on earth Zo would take the Mizzou job if he had a REAL offer from us.

Is this Marshall coming in or JW going to Wichita to offer him the job? This would be the best hire that JW could get right now.

This is where I'm at:

1. Archie Miller
2. Bennett
3. Gregg Marshall
4. Keatts
5. Buzz Williams

I'd be pumped to get any of them, but if we end up with Marshall he'd sure as heck better have some ace recruiters on his staff. He's not going to connect well with the high school/AAU communities in Chicago, St Louis, Indy, and Peoria. I can't reasonably put Keatts above Marshall given their respective track records, but my gut says Marshall would be an awkward fit here.

Things you would do well to prepare yourself for:

-Walker and Tilmon going to Mizzou
-Tony Bennett getting a big raise from UVA

Yep, we've been warned.

S&C had the AD search nailed from the beginning, so people should heed his words on Tony Bennett.

Saw some reply to that tweet that suggested it was $3M for 6 years, which is at least more believable since it means it was lower average AAV than the one he seems to be taking from Mizzou. Still, I have a hard time believing this is even true since we seem to have our sights set elsewhere.

Maybe Cuonzo is just really fond of turning us down.

And we're not even being investigated this time.

One can only hope he doesn't do as well against us at Mizzou as he did while he was at Purdue.
