TIFWIW, but I'm hearing the 'big' names are unlikely. Prolly gonna be Drew, Keatts, maybe Jankovich. Not awful, but also not that exciting.

Jankovich would be one of the most underwhelming hires ever. I am also not so fond of Drew.

Keatts would be good, but there will likely be more competition, whereas I do not think anyone else (high-major like Illinois) would go after the other two. I have a really hard time thinking that Mizzou gets Cuonzo Martin and we counter with Jankovich.

I like Keatts better than Bryce Drew though neither has done anything in tournament but that can be misleading for midmajors I thought Keatts coached really good game today Drew not so much though one game sample

Jankovich's resume very uninspiring except this year.

Coming out of retirement

Old school poster, but first post in a long time, albeit with a new username. I use to go by Katzisatool. Anyway, I was brought out of retirement when I saw the idea floated as fact that Stallings coached the same group of players last year to the same type of finish as Bryce Drew. Now, maybe someone refuted this already, and if so I am sorry, but that is patently false. Vandy this year was not near as talented as last year's team. Vandy had two first round draft picks on the team last year.

I am not necessarily "all in" on Drew, but, I couldn't let that falsehood stand.

I like:
1. Bennett
2. Buzz Williams
3. Keatts
4. Miller
5. Marshall
6. Either Drew

Tremendously uninspiring. Was terrible at North Texas, very mediocre at Illinois State, never made it to the NCAA with either school, and now we will offer him the Illini job because he coached Larry Brown's recruits to the NCAA. Say what? Tim Jankovich?

Jank haters admit how many SMU games you've watched this year.

I don't care if it's a small sample size, CONFESS YOUR SINS

I watched almost every game he coached at ISU, not very impressive. Good not great. Offense was fairly stagnant. He did recruit Chicago though, so he knows the area.

Can't think of any of his Chicago recruits besides Osirus Eldridge.

100% agree

Bryce Drew beat up on the Horizon league. Groce would have fared pretty well in the Horizon League, no? Weber's resume was way more impressive at SIU. I see Drew as a step back. I'd rather take a flyer on Keatts. I feel like Drew's ceiling is middle of the pack in conference.

Drew's other asst coach is Casey Shaw, bro in law who had a quick NBA career. Big dude.

His bio is cool w/ NBA type connections. Worked in Chicago before jumping into coaching.

Groce couldn't beat up on the MAC.

2 or 3. They looked really good, but I get the feeling it is like trying to evaluate what type of coach Weber is by watching 2005 team.

Groce didn't even beat up on the MAC. He was mediocre in the MAC, just had his teams get hot at the right time.

Not sure I understand your logic......

You can only coach where you are located.....Drew dominated the Horizon 5 of 6 years. Why should I assume Groce would? He was average in the MAC.

And, by your logic, Keatts is only dominating a weak conference.

If you don't like Drew, Keatts hasn't done anything more.

If none of the big names are interested, we are going to be hiring someone that is less than proven IMO.

Josh Whitman is a bronze tablet winning NFL veteran summa cum laude law school graduate ex-federal circuit court of appeals clerk white-shoe D.C. law firm sports law associate three-school athletic director. He may still be on the wrong side of the learning curve as a P5 AD but he's exponentially more capable of reading a candidate and seeing through to his true intentions than his predecessor ever was. I'm certain that Whitman would have sized up Beckman for everything he really was (and wasn't) in all of 30 seconds. So we might not get our splash, but I'm confident we're not going to get played. If Drew or Keatts is the best we can do in this market, Whitman will be the first in the room to figure that out, not the last.
