Not trying to be that guy, but last time I had some knowledge it was questioned (understandably).

I tell you: John Groce has been fired. 30 minutes later, John Groce "officially" fired.

Anyways...

Monday, Monty Williams will be named the next head coach of the Illini.

:hailtotheorange:

Ha, it's already leaking.

Also, I have no information about the timing of the announcement, just that he's being hired on Monday. Maybe they wait until Tuesday morning to officially announce? At this rate, it'll be leaking all over the place by Monday, though.

his new orleans teams were pretty young by all accounts. I'll say this though - I have no inside info but I'd be estatic with monty. I'd be happy with miller. I'd be content with bryce drew. I'd be hopeful with bennett. i'd be prayerful with marshall.

There ya go, if it's. Any of the 4 very happy

I just don't get this. I think almost every name here including Monty gives us a great chance to retain recruits and start making tourneys

Keatts goes to NC State have to compete with Indiana in coach hunt. Thinking more and more it will be Bryce Drew which I guess is ok but certainly doesn't excite me

I can't wrap my brain around the idea that Monty Williams is anything but a grand slam hire.

I think Monty could be a incredible recruiter. He's such a likable guy and very charismatic. Watching some of the players talk about what Monty meant to them after his wife's passing was very emotional. He has had a real connection with his players.

I picture our athletic director sitting in his comfy chair in his office with a smirk on his face scrolling through this thread and reading articles written by blowhards thinking to himself "if they only knew what I know"

2016 Olympics USA Men's National Team coaching staff:

Mike Krzyzewski
Jim Boeheim
Tom Thibodeau
Monty Williams

Stein stated that league sources told ESPN that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has urged Williams to take as much of a role with the organization as he feels comfortable for the 2016-17 campaign.

The specifics of what role Williams would fill and how much time he could commit have not yet been determined, but sources say San Antonio has opened the door to either a coaching and player-development role or a front-office position, depending on what he prefers.

The more i watch and read...i cant get enough. I agree with you.

The best basketball minds on the planet earth continually go to bat for this guy. What other endorsement would one need to be convinced he's a capable coach for Illinois?

I'm betting there is already a deal in place for either Marshall or Archie. We will know early next week.....

You know what everyone else knows on this board. Which is absolutely nothing. Whitman will make a solid pick, I'm sure of it!

I love you guys but to bag on Monty, like he might not be good enough for us, is completely rediculous. Just in the short time he was here in OKC he made a huge impact on the team and community. He is a leader and a communicator too the highest degree. His coaching had a large inidividual impact on the thunder players. After his wife Ingrid died, he just couldn't return to the team. He is an amazing person and we would be extremely lucky to have him. I can only imagine the staff he could put together.

Monday and Tuesday are going to be insane around these parts.

Come Monday night, one of these songs will be getting HEAVY Play rotation 'round these parts:

1. Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen
2. Is That All There Is?
3. Crazy
4. Monday, Monday, Can't Trust That Day
5. The HALLELUJAH Chorus

I'd rather picture our AD working diligently on finding our next coach rather than wasting time reading this thread.
